How have you decided to end it all?
« on: June 04, 2013, 06:42:18 PM »
I am intrigued if ever any members at the start of this hobby decide how they would like to end this hobby? I used to think once I got a 'grail' watch, I would stop collecting. Having achieved that, whilst the itch is no more there, I personally don't feel that the journey has come to an end. I just find a different reason to collect a watch. My latest reason; I would like to collect one piece from my birth year. It seems to me only bankruptcy, heavy responsibilities or the inevitable passing of oneself would finally put a halt to this madness. :Laughing_on_floor: So my question to all members is as the topic suggests; "how have you, if ever, decided to end this hobby?"

Until one reaches a stage of selflessness and can survive on a gingko seed for a month or is no longer breathing, one will always have worldy desires such as greed, lust, etc... :Blue:

Personal taste and preferences evolve over years, hopefully not 1 full circle otherwise it means we haven't learnt a single thing.

End this hobby? Maybe when I am 6 feet under?  :Laughing_on_floor:
I doubt there will really be an "end"
Maybe just slowing down, or temporary holdback... there will always a relapse sooner or later.

I don't think 'this' ever ends. It merely moves on and takes a different form. A 'new' bad habit, so to speak.

Take for example, I used to buy plenty of sneakers at one point in my life. When I say a lot, I mean I had over 90 pairs stashed away in my cupboard. Before that, it was another bad habit. Currently, I can't afford any bad habits, but I know when funds become available... *ahem*

Look of all the replies from the heavily poisoned!

I Want to.

I wanted to end watch collecting at the age of 40 (which is next year Nov) and either end it with a Big Bang or a simple birth year watch or to buy the watch that started me out in this hobby (Omega Speedmaster). A symbolic watch that was "born" in 1974 is the Tag Silverstone but I don't quite take a fancy of it.

A lot of discipline involved buddy!!

I have stop buying since my bank balance doesn't permit anymore. Therefore i can only think-about , wish-about and fantasize and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that .  Its good since it keep me working harder and it is like a "motivation"  to me,,, wahhahahahah !

But when that day comes and my balance permit, i will have my wishes granted and goals achieved  !! lol...

To be totally away from watches, it's impossible.  I enjoy even by looking through the display windows of local dealers even on watches that i have seen many many times !

I guess we will stop when we find another hobby to distract the current one, before I started to really like watches, I was into golf and thinking I will be become Tiger Woods, buying different golf sets, shoes, caps, balls, tees and especially gloves. Now all lying in the house collecting dust and become spider nest.

My late best friend once told me " Mind over matter. If you don't mind it doesn't matter". Of course that was in jest but on a personal note, a lot of things don't matter so much now.  :Praying:

it would never stop...stop collecting watches maybe. But in the end it'll just switch to something else equally expensive.

Boys and their toys... it'll never stop. Just the toys get more expensive.

Maybe the best is to fix the number of watches to own at any one time. Flip as needed, but never increase past the magic number. I'm trying to stick to the number 3.

End it?  You gotta be kidding!

My watches are getting buried with me (apart from the 16600, which will be a 21st birthday gift for my future son).

First hobby which a person cannot get out off.  :Laughing_on_floor: But have you all ever foreseen at the beginning whether you are going to stop at any time at all?

 :Praying:

When I buy a watch that costs more than my first car (when new). An early 90s Proton Iswara.

When that happens, I'm done. I think an AP or PP ought to do it.

Most Rolex sport models already cost more than a new Proton Iswara in the 90s no?
