Would you buy more than one piece of the same watch?

Yes I did

[imghttp://i1285.photobucket.com/albums/a585/leong33/Orient/009_zps6a1544f4.jpg]http://[/img]

A brief write up on this watch:-

Diameter: 45mm excluding crown
Lug width: 24mm
Lug to lug: 51mm
Thickness: 13.6mm

This Orient Cal 469 40th Anniversary commemorative models was released in 2011. There are two models, one in black case (EM7F001B) and the other in stainless steel case (EM7F002B). Both models are based on the design of the King Diver series from the 70?s.

The stainless steel model is limited to 2000 pieces while the black coated model is limited to 1000 pieces.

The watch is water resistant to 200m and comes with an inner rotating bezel that is controlled by the crown at the 4 o’clock position. The bezel rotates in both directions and you can screw in crown to prevent the bezel from rotating.
The crown at the 3 o’clock position is used to set the date and time. This is also a screw in crown.

The screw in pusher at the 2 o’clock position is used to set the day. You need to unscrew the pusher first in order to set the day.

Anyone MWF members would buy the same watch for more than 1 unit ?

I really like to know if any watch connoisseur out there is as crazy as me?

First, the adventure of searching for this limited model is exciting where I have to travel around the AD to seek for the units, its really like a tresure hunt game.

Second, the feel of a Bell & Ross wannabe on my wrist of course a more affordable one

Third, the bracelet is thin and like a leather strap hug closely to my wrist which is very comfortable

Fourth, its a beauty and really make you more macho haha

Fifth, the thrill of bargaining for the same model improve from one unit to the other, so the last unit I got is the cheapest.

So you may ask why I buy three not more?

If I can see another I may consider though a friend of mine saw a few in Melaka AD.

Initially thought of for investment, for spares and finally for children when they mature, what a far sighted vision.

Anyway the damage is done my dilema now is how to explain to my wife, she may consider me a crazy fella.

Need some like minded members out there to give some advice on how to deal with wife, or can share your experience so that I am not the only kind here.

I did and it was because of minor design changes and different materials used in some of the components

Dear sshark

Thanks for your moral support

Mine the difference is the limited edition serial number, no other difference everything is identical.

Anyone can beat this?

You win :)

Seriously, I can't see myself buying a watch just because of words difference. Unless, there is an investment element in there. Too little money too many watches :)

Usually when one does this, just like the comic/toys collectors.
They plan to sell.
Looks like at least one of these will end up on our FS section soon.

I wanna answer but I'm afraid to do so.  :-X

Let's just say the idea is not foreign to me but only apply to vintage not modern pieces like yours.

I guess in a sense you're the champion. You must really love this watch.

As for advice on how to tell your wife.... who say you have to tell? ::)

Good hunting

Not really Pete. I had an addiction for seiko divers sometime back, and ended owning a few pieces of 6105 divers, 6309 divers and 6306 divers. It was an addiction, nothing to do with planning to sell.

For the 6105 divers, I first had a 6105-8110. Then I acquired a 6105-8119. These watches were identical in all respects except for the case number (8110 vs. 8119 -> 8119 signals that it was meant for the North American market). Then I got another 6105 because it had the "horse-shoe" pre-1975 caseback.

Likewise for the 6309 divers. First a 6309-7040, then a 6309-7049, then one cased in HKG, then one made pre-1979 with crown guard like that of a 6306.

The 6306 diver was rarer because it was a JDM model. Yet I had 2. Completely identical, except the one made in 1976 had 2 "click balls" under the bezel instead of the usual 1. And the 6306 are almost identical to the 6309 except that the 6306 hacks.

Complete madness. The only solution?? Sell everything and swear you'll never visit the seiko citizen watch forum ever again and sever all ties with your seikoholic friends...

Add: But this disease does not affect everyone.....yes, some people may acquire a few pieces of the same watch with the intention to sell.... ;D

I would only do it for different variations, for example different precious material or dial colours.

But everyone has their own little craziness in this hobby, I say, whatever makes you happy you must do it!

Congrats on your pieces.

Hi guys

You guys are really fantastic

Godzillaz, I like your advice "...who say you have to tell"

For investment maybe yes or no, would you dare to venture into this Takashi78 ? What if nobody buys what happen then?

For the love of the watch there is something really its a beauty.

For the next generation possible since its a reproduction of the 1971 model perhaps another 40 years down the road its a vintage and a sought after in the future years.

Hard to predict what ever the reason just love the watch and will not tell W, haha as advised by Godzillaz dude. A good dude haha

At least Enkidu you are like minded thanks brother for your support.

Don't think so. But there was once I wanted to buy two Rolexes with the same model but different versions. Just because I intended to use them for different purposes and for different occasions.

I think watches are luxury items so why buy same watches unless you are a collector. Cheers.  :)

the only ones of the 'same' which i've got are just 2 monsters...and only reason i got 2 is so i could do this.

Dear GMT Master

Initial thought when I got the second one is that if my first one damage I still have another as this is a LE, after the second one then my thought was getting another perhaps for my children since they are great looking and evergreen design.

Well anyway I am a collector in this case. Collect for the beauty of the watch.

For me, well if i did get 2 of the same kind, i would've at least chosen a different colour dial/material or maybe the bracelet/strap.

Cheers.

Dear Yoda,

Seems like you have thought out the reasons to own more than 2 of this particular model. Your affection for this model is strong. Plus, you admit that you are a collector, so I think your move is sound. As long as you are not straining your budget, it is fine I guess. May your lovely wife understand you and let you have peace of mind.  :D

P.s. I really hope your kid likes this watch.  ;)
