The serial number starting with the alphabet correspond to the year the case was stamped and made...
A serial is 1999, X serial is 1991, T serial is 1996, M serial is 2007 and so on.
You can do a google search for all the serial number and manufacturing year it correspond to.
Newer Rolexes after year 2011 goes by 8 digit random serial... which is a mixture of numbers and alphabets.

Correction guys,

That's no 'no date' sub.

That's only sub (14060) and sub date (16610).

hogwash...

the serials only indicate very roughly when the case was stamped but not exactly when the watch was assembled or sold. i suppose for fast selling models like the submariner date, the numbers would be more accurate when trying to guess year of sale.
