« on: October 24, 2012, 11:57:07 AM »
Hi Sifus,

Wondering if anyone can gives some input/review.I'm looking for some personal review/opinion as i'm now in the cross road between a PAM00024 or a Rollie Sub.

Honestly , i'm caught between these 2 & my fund permits me to only choose 1. thank you guys!...

Submariner. Because it is a rolex. Unless you already have a Seadweller, Deepsea Seadweller or any other submariner then I'd go for the PAM00024.

Sometimes it is all about luck when it comes to reselling. Sometimes you meet a buyer that really wants what you have and you will suffer minimal to no loss. Sometimes, when you choose to sell at the wrong time i.e: economic downturn, then you will not get a good price. But generally, it is safe to say that Rolex has the better resale value. For RM15k, the new ceramic range such as the 116610 and the 114060 is out of your reach. You can get the non-ceramic range such as the 16610 and the 14060 for that amount. For year, best to get one as new as possible.

Is there any particular point that i will need to look out for when getting a pre-owned sub ? Worried the parts maybe replaced or it is not being properly service by the previous owner or worst still ,fake.

Recently , i was in Macau. I saw alot of pawn shop selling all sort of sub , not sure if they're full set or original but it is really confusing.

That's always a risk of buying pre-owned.
For peace of mind, get it verify at RSC before deal, if possible.

There is advice on buying pre-owned in the forums. But to sum it up, buy the seller first.

Best to do a local deal where you can easily find the seller again if it you face a problem. Buying from overseas, it's best to buy from an AD. Too much going on in Macau or HK that you have to be a very seasoned buyer before trying your luck.

Rolex Submariners regularly show up in our For Sale section.

Coz the dial is more proportionate / balanced.
And also it's more closer to the original sub.

subs is prefer due to higher resale value over long term as compare to pam24.

just like comparing Merc and Volks - both are good german car but somehow Merc carried better resale price, i guest same goes for rolex.... in this case

Like Hanz said, the Submariner is more balanced and does not come with the cyclop which some people don't like.

But, if you are not obsessed with symmetry and do not have a problem with the cyclop, just go for the sub-date, especially the improved 116610LN. I own both (14060M and the 116610LN) and personally I prefer the 16610LN. No question about it.

PS: The cyclop is stuck to the crystal by a very good rolex glue. If the cyclop bothers you more than your Rolex losing its value or the cystal getting chipped, I believe you can try removing the cyclop by exposing the cyclop to the blue flame from a hand-torch for a couple of seconds. It will normally fall off or you can flick it away with a pen knife. Haven't tried it myself though. Try it at your own risk of course.  ;D

The no date actually looks cleaner , but mayb i have been surveying only the date sub , the no date 4 me felt like missing some details somewhere somehow

Thank you all the gurus / sifu for the advice ,:)

I will go for Sub with date. Indeed, sub with date price tends to be higher than those without date.

If I remember correctly, the newer 6 digit reference Rolex will have the underside of the cyclops coated with anti reflective coating.
Removing the cyclops will mean that there will be a mark on the crystal... does not look very good.
