Illusion
« on: May 23, 2012, 01:06:27 PM »
I noticed one thing. The watches on display in any boutique, authorised dealers or shops always look much better than if it is on the wrist. Sometimes looking at watches at the shops always spur me to buy watches. Once it is back with me, it will look a bit tired. I always wonder is this due to the lighting? Or do the shops polish their watches? Of course that being said, one watch on the wrist is better than 100 in the shop.

I wonder if we can go in staff rest area to test the watch to get the "real world" feel :Laughing_on_floor:

Hot SA is useless unless she can give good discount....

i agree the lighting effects in watch shops are special. that's what makes the watch stand out in the display.

also a really hot SA in a boutique in Pavillion nearly got me to buy a Zenith... lucky my wife was around or else i'd be walking out with it and maybe her..  :Laughing_on_floor:  :Laughing_on_floor:

I noticed they used a yellowish light in boutiques as opposed to white lights. Maybe that is what makes the watch so appealing.

I know what you mean. There are times when i would go to different Ad to look at the same watch and i would wonder why the same watch can look  different between stores. Lights play a very important role in emptying our wallets

While the lighting effects did makes the watches stand out. Another element is the "desire" inside you which make the watches better looking than when it's on your wrist daily.

I'm sure your wife/ gf would agree with this too. LOL.

I noticed it is those mini-spotlights placed in the shops. Just brings out the shine in the watches.

G Mac, I personally think the illusion lies more with evil magazine and picture. :Scolding:

I mean some of them look so attractive on magazine or picture. But i think most of them look 'tired' when i tried them on wrist. That's why i insisted that i must tried and feel the watch on my wrist rather than buying it without trying. So, i hold on the principle of try, think and decide later these days even if its merely a 2-3k watch. Thats probably the best cure i have. Also, that can reduce buying 'all misc" which i have been telling myself not to.

I agree. Especialy those macro shots. Wow, sometimes the settings used makes the watch looks very good. Really deceiving.

Exactly mate. Today i am so lucky to be able to handle Opus 7. Well, i will have to say that this is really a piece of art. But the price is too much for me to even consider. probably urweck in time to come. the physical piece looks as stunting as the picture. Another piece of art.

Maybe I am the odd one out. I find the watch looks better after I have bought it and admiring it at home. I am glad I feel that way, especially since I have spent good money to acquire it  ;D

Yes, fully agree to try looking at those watch under normal light.

But I have not yet encountered hot SA  in JB nowadays. Used to know one and bought few watches from her, but she married.

This thing is true. Example, from the website, that watch has a pitch black dial. The manufacturer also edit the picture in the website or advertising to make it look cool. When I check the real watch at AD, the colour of the dial is slightly brighter black, but be careful of the effect of the bulb lighting . It will reflect differently to the watch especially dial compare to the natural light. I always try it on wrist and take it a bit far from the bulb lighting to see the real color of the watch or dial when it reflecting from natural light.
