Recommendations for a dress watch
« on: April 17, 2012, 06:12:56 PM »
To end it all, am considering looking for a dress watch in the near future having released my one and only a year back. The thing is I am not disciplined when i go looking for watches and always ended up with a diver time and time again. So I want to narrow down the options so that I do not stray away from the goal. Am looking for the following requirements:-
1. Dial - White or black
2. Complications - not necessary but would consider a PR indicator only
3. Case Size - minimum 42mm steel
4. Price - under RM10,000(please suggest one as close as possible to this)
5. Movement - i prefer an in-house automatic movement but I know it aint easy to find one at that price so am not fussy with it.

Would like to see what the options are with those requirements.  Recommend me any well-known brand except maurice lacroix. Nothing wrong with it but I want to try something else. I wish I can have a IWC Portuguese 7 days at that price.
Thanks for any feedbacks.

I thought of Longines as well but I would like to see other options. GS sounds good but most are above my price range. I dont mind pre-owned though.

only sports watch is equipped with calibre 4.96 and it's variations like th Pro One, Pro One GMT and LUC Sport 2000

The dress watches are equipped with calibre 1.96 with the main difference being the level of finish and a gold rotor

Hamilton's Thin-O-Matic reissue just caught my eye. Saw a picture floating around on the forums sometime ago.

Wah that Chopard really poisonous. But would prefer it in steel. I will look out for Bremont but not into Jeanrichard as am not a fan.

Try the Breitling Transocean (no chronograph) if you are looking for one around 42mm. It's a bit higher than 10k though. If you don't mind something less than 42mm and having an in-house movement and yet less than 10k, I would recommend that you get a nice vintage Omega Seamaster or Constellation Pie-Pan.

I would recommend Longines, within your budget. Longines watch was well known with it's long existence, many product lines are with classy outlook & they got pretty stable engines too. Good for dress watch, esp the Master Series.

Just my 2cents.

only the supermarine models interest me. The dress watches are not my cup of tea. I am looking for a big case because my wrist is big.
