Looks like Rolex is the way to go.. oh well, not this time for me as I'm looking for something new. There is monetary value and there is sentimental value. This time, I'll go for sentimental. (also because she said if I'm giving her a watch, she prefer the first to be new :p )

Good luck with your hunt hanz, and Terrence, thanks very much for sharing the pics. The AK does look very good on a lady. Maybe I cab get her this later after I convince her that preloved isn't too bad..
I guess I might go for sentimental value as well...
My wife's birthday is in 4 days time and I don't think I have time to hunt slowly... lol
I will go for a preloved but no need to tell her it is one...
Before giving it to her, just hide the papers... send the watch for a polish... tadaaa!!! :Dancing_banana: :Dancing_banana: As good as new!!

You put the cover-up here, next time got chance to meet both of you, I will definitely tell her the cover up story  :Laughing_on_floor: :Laughing_on_floor:

Just an update on the birthday present.
I did not get my wife a watch since she is eyeing an upgrade for our 8 year old wedding ring... I got it for her.

It's a 0.52 carat South African Solitaire Diamond White Gold ring.
Look closely and you can see that the engraving is the same as the old ring which is the date I lost my masters.  ;D

New and old all together.
I am still wearing the 8 year old Rose Gold Diamond ring.
She is wearing all 2...

And just when I thought I am all good to go, we watched the Knight and Day dvd where she saw Cameron Diaz wearing the Sub and she tells me... "Dear, that looks good..."
That to me is a signal...
And she is smart enough to google up 2 pics and she shows em to me...

One word.... Damn...
I would prefer to get her the Explorer 114270 though... just because it is cheaper and it leaves me with more moolah for my own splurge later...

bro,
let me teach you how to look on diamond
i have get some info and study on diamond during want to get a diamond for my current wife.
diamond yes measure in 4 C, Carat, color , clarity, Cut
and this 4 C will determine the price,

many jewery shop selling diamond and some is in ex price but some is lying, you must know how to see to enable you to get a real quality diamond.
normally we as a buyer what we can see with our eye is carat, color and CUT(neet experience)
1) carat - everyone know big or small diamond the bigger the expensive.
2) color - the colorless is the expensive
3) Cut - premium cut, excelent cut, triple excelent cut. each diff cut give different shining,
for sure for premium cut with the normal sportlight u see shine, but normal light u see nothing just a glass, but for triple excelent u see shine all the time, u can proof when u got a primium and 1 excelent put both together u see.
4) Clarity - this is the hardest part and most of the ppl is no idea what is it. and this is where the cheat your money.
this is the clearness of the diamond, and it only can be seen by expert with a 10-20x len zoom, and some as you can see in the cert but the cert some is fake they can make a cert in any lab. as expert told me, the real cert is only for 1 karat above that is how they lazer the code at the diamond, below the 1 karat there is no way can lazer the code to the diamond, so how can u so sure the cert is belong to that diamond.

clarity is consist of vvs1, vvs2, vs1,vs2, s1,s2, l1,l2
the vvs1 is the best (very very slily dirt) almost clear. that is the expensive,.
the are 1 expert told me, he saw some ppl bough a 1 karat diamond with cert everything about 10K above when she want to trade in the diamond, actually it is not a good clarity, color, and cut make the diamond not even worth back 10K, that aunty cry until crazy, always know how to buy diamond.

and there is a fake diamond as well (they call human made diamond) when ever buy a diamond, they have a device to test on the stone is it a real diamond or not, something like autrasound, something like that.
i see and use before when i bough the stone for my wife, it really give a big sound when it hit a diamond when the devices, but you get a bit no sound lighting to a stone when you hit a stone, middle light for gold and silver, diamond sound when u hit real diamond.

not bad information. actually i also come to study this this year becoz of buying 1 for my gf. so happen my fren is working in a diamond distribution company so i learn alot from her. here is the rank in order which 4 c is important

1st C - color, is important to choose colorless which fall under D E F, If is G H or I is abit yellowish which can eye with bare eye. not really nice if is yellowish
2nd C - cutting, this is important coz right cutting can make the diamond shine n blink. so the best cutting is perfect cutting which contain 8 heart from the bottom n 8 arrow from the front view (inside the diamond)
3rd C - carat, offcoz the bigger the better loh. but at least get a 0.30ct coz tis is the min ct that can have the laser code inside the diamond itself
4th C - clarity, offcoz F(flawless) is the best bt cant afford. even VVS1 o VVS2 is not worth to buy coz hardly c the different. so as long go for VS1 o VS2 is good enuf.

Khanwooi, not sure who the expert you learnt from is, but some info there sounds a bit different from what I know. However, I'm no expert so I shall just share what I know.

In terms of engraving on the diamond, I bought a 0.4 carat which is engraved and number agrees back to the cert. Size, of course bigger better, but not necessarily more expensive. A bigger diamond with less clarity and higher colour grade can be cheaper than a smaller diamond with higher clarity and lower colour grade (ie. D,E,F).

Some labs like IGI are known to grade colours on the more optimistic side, hence some people don't value those cert. Clarity wise, even SI1 you will find it difficult to see the flaw if it is cut well. Only thing is that it might not be able to withstand higher pressures when setting and may crack if dropped accidentally. However, this is just a risk and only happens very rarely.

Cut I find is the most important especially for those below 1 carat. My 0.4 has been thought to be bigger by everyone who saw it. This is because it reflects a lot of light from every angle. Cut by one of the best around. I have compared many side by side before buying and the cut really made a lot of difference.

As we know, ladies love to compare and be complemented and mine is always happy when she tells me hers is more "bling" and looks bigger than others she sees. So, if she is happy, I'm happy. :)

Hans, congrats on a beautiful diamond for your wife! You can buy what you want first, the diamond will keep her occupied for some time. :p

For diamond, my opinion is, anything below 1 carat is just for wearing purpose and low value on investment.
So, as long as good color and good cut that will make your diamond look outstanding. Good color + good cutting give you lots of 'fire'. lol
For clarity, since it will be on your ring or earring, barely have ppl will use magnifying loupe to see your diamond. So, VS1 or VS2 is enough.
Unless you want to keep for its value, then go for Diamond with 1 carat and above, D color, excellent cut and flawless.  ;D

below is ring i bought for my wife (when she is still my gf)

each diamond have it own cut, clarity and color,
some buy look nice and shine, they feel happy,

but truefully when the fight come is when the you found a opponent wearing the similar carat ring as yours.,..

by looking on your own diamond, 100% yours is the best, but when 2 diamond is put on together, that is the time you measure 4C.

as what Hellkite said.
you more into CUT of a diamond. but color and clarity is also important.
when your wife got a challenger wearing similar karat as your GF, the color will show out the diff, and the clarity will effect the light reflex also doesn't mean you have triple excelent cut also will show diff.

to compare diamond always use 2 diamond put together side by side, you see diff.

then your GF/wife lose to the challenger, then we are the 1 headache hehehehe

the 1 i bought to my wife is 0.36 karat, vvs2, color - F, excelent cut, with the RING diamond hold i design my self.
that killing. hahaha
but it shine all the time,

was damn surprised recently when i went to my usual jewelry chain.

The ring that i bought for my wife 3 years ago, now cost 100% more  :o!!!

not only gold have went up exponentially but diamonds in tandem as well!!! with the new found affluence in the far east, diamonds are in big demand. nature can;t catch up with demand.

so instead of buying a new car, a good sized and quality diamond can be considered.
