nice collection hobbit, maybe when i get all of mine back from my watchmaker and from the bank i can take one family photo too.

actually not only base and destro bro, u r missing PVD action and a strong patina base.
what about a 2A/BT, and a 26K. good combo.  ;D

dsiewmy,

I am not really into the Patina action. I would get it if the price is right. The difference between a BT and a BL is not for me. Same applies for the PVD. I would like to get one but not at the asking price, even brand new from Panerai. My most expensive Panerai (watch for that matter) is the PAM00337 and I would like it to stay that way.

The fact of the matter is I am already suffering from Panerai Model Fatigue and would like to call it a day. I have for the past month been busy culling my collection of over 200 watches (lots of Casio and fashion brands) to bring it down to a more manageable level of perhaps 20 to 25 watches. I am already retired and don't go out much, so the opportunity to wear my watches is really not there.

Anyway, I would love to see your collection. I am sure it will be outstanding.

hmm, if tritium doesn't appeal to you then you will save a lot of money there  ;)

as for PVD, it's really beautiful. pencil grey is pretty hard to come by even including other makers.
it's not black, not grey, but pencil grey. especially awesome with patina or faux patina.
really should consider a piece i.e. 26K, 28L all asking around retail prices nowadays.

lastly, have u ever tried a titanium? 176, 55, etc. beautiful shade, pretty nice for a base

Newbie question for Sifu Dsiewmy.
What are the differences between the Base 000 and the 360?
Take care, Ciao!

dsiewmy,

I agree on the PVD on the Panerai. It is very nice. I like it a lot. As for the titanium models, I have seen (and was offered) the PAM00176G. It is a nice base and even nicer with the painted dial, but still holding out.

I was offered a PAM00232 (yesterday) and am considering it. Perhaps I should just get it and call it a day and forget about the rest. We will have to see what happens. I am sure it will look good on the JV strap I have on order from Panerai.

pam 000

pam 360

both also called logos, as they are remakes of the original 5218/201a logo.
there're tons of articles about this watch, go search about it and read about it if u r keen on logo.

without going into much detail about the dial, just a bit about the watch:
(1) PAM000 is a regular production model produced yearly, PAM360 was a 10th anniversary SE for p.com only 300 were made
(2) very huge price difference (PAM360 about 6x the RRP of PAM000)
(3) polished stainless steel on PAM000, PVD DLC on PAM360
(4) green L dial on 000, faux patina L dial on 360
(5) normal case back on 000, special engraved back case to say 10th anniversary etc. etc. etc on 360
(6) notice also the position of LUMINOR and PANERAI on 000 (doesn't follow exactly as the original 201A logo), whilst 360 has a much balanced dial.

wooo, every hardcore risti should have a PAM232, i have a group of ristis nearly all of us has a 232 at one time or another.
may i know how much are they offering it for?

i reckon it looks nicer on a french ammo, or if dressier on a dark color brown tapered simona croc.

Thank you for showing the light on the 000 v/s 360.
Wow! I've got a lot to learn about Panerai.  :shocked1:
Having seen both the watches together, I think the 360 is the better looking but at 6x the price of the base......

like these :
201a - the original vintage logo

360 - the modern cousin

390 - the newest addition

[/quote]

This kind of examples that makes me not getting enough sleep    thinking of a PAM..but unfortunately still cant afford one.  :Praying: :Praying:

That's why  a newbie that i am, decided to go on a current icon 111 to begin with. Been offered a 312 but cant get off the 111... and rather than to go for a 312 might as well save money for a cheaper S.E like the 2001 regatta, arktos, explorer bezel etc.

Not to mentioned owning a panerai and joining the paneristi community expands the friendship demography which what happens to me, is one cool experience.

Newbie. Started to learn bout watches early last yr, introduced by a friend. Since then I ve a Black seal n Pam 88.  And I do agree w the seniors that there are just too many LD n SD for Panerai. Unlike Rolex, I ve stop collecting Pam for the time being. Sometimes I wish they will just concentrate on 15 models or less and develop the line. Also giving it some names wld give the models stronger brand identification like Rolexes Sub, GMT, Yatchmaster etc.

Honestly I do find Pam watches ruggedly beautiful, just than quite confusing for an amateur like me.

hmm i don't think that the pam collection is THAT confusing.
let's put it this way.

the largest collection are split to 2 :
(1) HISTORIC RANGE
(2) CONTEMPORARY RANGE

<Linking to Rolex example>
(1) the historic range is where PAM DNA is strongest. this part i'd say would be similar to that of ROLEX SPORT range.

(2) the contemporary range adds on new functions for convenience/based on customer demand (PR,date, auto, etc etc). this range is much more complicated, and wouldn't it be similar to the datejust range?

bryankwc,

Thank you. I had the opportunity to see and 'play' with the PAM00346 recently. It is a very beautiful watch and hard to come by. I hope you get it. But at almost RM46k, it is a bit out of my league.
Hi Hobbit.
Just read your blog yesterday & found out where you got to 'play' with the PAM00346.
Is it what a PAM collector would expect of a good Panerai?
I mean its DNA, size & boldness, etc.
Take care, Ciao!

bryankwc,

Had the opportunity to 'play' with the watch again, here in Taiwan (got suckered into putting my name down for the PAM00219.....). It is a nice watch. It is a good watch but personally I would get the PAM00190 over this one. The PAM00346 is nice with its brown dial and gold hands but the cyclops does not do it for me. It does for others, but not for me. That is one of the main reason I have not gotten into the Contemporary collection, save the PAM00243.

If I had to get an 8 days Radiomir (and I have the funds), I would go for the PAM00339 or if you just want to get a Radiomir with Panerai DNA, it would be the PAM00249 or PAM00232 or the coming soon (so they say) PAM00372.
