Yup! Ipoh white coffee for Siodee & DC to keep them talking, stuff their mouths with 'Yee-poh ngar choy kai' to shut them up and finish off with snow beer to put them to sleep! :Laughing_on_floor:
But, seriously I haven't gone round my own town to look for good pre-own pieces.  :-[
I guess there would be more choices in KL anyway.

Snow beer or 'sheet far bear' was made popular in Ipoh back in the 80s and slowly spread to KL in the 90s, if I got the facts right.
Basically, it's beer chilled to a certain temp and when the bottle is open, the foam pours out in a 'snowy' texture.
Beer lovers swear that it goes down nice and easy and you don't get drunk so easy!
Most popular place is in old town, between the Maybank building and the historic 'Concubine Lane', at night.
Take care, Ciao!

Ipoh old town serves great white coffee but for that exquisite smooth lingering aftertaste try the iced white coffee at Foo Kwai coffeshop in Kg Bercham. Never fail to stop by for a cuppa when passing thru. Corner shop just next to Maybank, opposite Shell station. Serves great noodles and yong tau foo mix too. Highly recommended is the dry curry mee. Yummy. Try it Bryan, and rate it.

miss ipoh.... any coffee shop in ipoh is better than everything over here.

can't get any decent noodles over here. everything so heavy alkaline taste. coffee and tea sucks too....

tau foo far not smooth enough...bean sprouts not crunchy enough..... fried noodles too sweet.....

the only saving grace are the women wears shorter than Ipoh  :Laughing_on_floor:

Agree ...if the newbie read until here, those previous posts are some bad example to follow, especially those food or leng lui stuff. This is MWF (Malaysia Watch Forum), and not (Malaysia Wanted Food)... :Laughing_on_floor:

Back to topic.

To summarise:

From Gmac - always go for your grail watches. There may be semi-grail & everyday watches, but the most satisfaction is your grail watch.

From Gigi -
1) Watch is not "investment". Only watches (those big name brand) are more "liquid" to exchange for cold, hard cash.
2) Consider about maintaining the watch ie., sent for service; prices will be from around Rm800 to ten of thousand Ringgit
3) Get the watch you liked the most and try not to follow the crowd, ie buy the watch to satisfy yourself, no one else.
4) Enjoy the hobby and do not judge people by what watch are they wearing.

From siowdee -
Let the newbies think that watch is an investment, get their fingers burn, then they will learn.

Hope I'm not breaking any rules with this post.
Since this thread is for newbies, and I am new to this hobby, can I ask the Sifus here this.
There are many shops that sell pre-owned watches. In your experience, how do you check or find out if;
a) the shop / seller is honest with his claims.
b) the authencity of the watch that you are interested in?
Thanks in advance for the advices

Me no sifus, but from what I can gather these past few weeks,
a) the shop / seller is honest with his claims - "buy" the seller first, ie get "pally" with the seller and from there assess if he is an honest seller; find out from other buyers (if you know them), recommendation from internet(?).
b) the authencity of the watch that you are interested in -
1) do your own homework; for example, if I am looking for a 1970 Rollie, check out the serial no. and see it match the year of make or not.
2) caress or molest the watch, (this one may need many moons of experience by feeling the fakes with the originals) you will know if the watch is a "chou fo" (Cantonese meaning rough stuff aka fakes)
3) get watch sifus from MWN to tag along for their assessment

Some of the recommendation can be forund in the thread started by siodee on vintage watch and please see my comments at reply #13:
http://www.malaysiawatchforum.com/index.php/topic,2798.0.html

Cheers.

I am thank for the explaination. After two years, I think i got my semi holy grail. But I have made some mistakes n sold it off after a few months. Some seniors also advised me to stay with a certain numbers (unless its collectable) otherwise we bankrupt our account. I have much to learn. After 2 years, I do not think I have lost alot of money and am still confine to 6 pieces only.
Now I am eyeing my holy grail and may just off load my moonwatch.
Thank you

Your one panerai is worth more than our seikos, citizen, casio, swatches etc.
You wear wear one watch for many occasions.
We wear many watches for the one occasion we deemed appropriate (in our opinion).
