May i add some too
FirstlyWatches are not investment especially if you are buying those "small/unknown/not many people know" type of watch brand which will depreciate ALOT when you try to sell. Even if you bought lolex/lolmega/Bretiling etc chances of getting a high return is quite low compared to buying property. The most you can get is maybe 80% more or less your money back UNLESS you get the odd one like the one cheese had on his Tudor heritage chronograph.
In my opinion, watches (i meant those big name brand) are not investment but more to be
"liquid" as in it will be easily (depending on brand tho) turn into cash when you (are desperately) need cold hard cash.
I hate people generally told me watches is an "investment"
SecondlyWhen you buy watches, please consider about the maintenance cost. Depending who you gave the watch to be serviced, prices will be from around Rm800 to ten of thousand Ringgit.
As a rule of thumb, if the watch have
more bell and whistle usually the
service cost will be
higher. Same goes to
how old is the watch, the older the watch usually more expensive. The
person/company who will handle your watch will also determine the price of the service, official service center usually the most expensive (they label it as "profit center") but it does not mean the tech folks there will know what are they doing (eg seiko service center

). Some indie watch repairer will do better job at lower price but the problem is that they may not have access to parts but usually will not be the problem unless your skru up your watch badly.
It is an interesting point to think about it when you compared it to buying a Honda and Ferrari and counting the cost of owning it (like servicing, spare parts etc).
ThirdlyGet the watch you liked the most and try not to follow the crowd.
I had seen posted in this forum and other forum asking "What do you thing of watch A" and usually the person will end up buying if the replies were positive and end up ditching the plan to buy it if the replies were negative. Usually I would just reply the person "Buy it if you liked it alot".
The reason I said this is because you are buying the watch to
satisfy yourself aka "Shiok Sendiri" and not to buy and wear for the sake of pleasing other people.
When I first entered into the hobby, the first watch brand I saw is Panarai and I immediately stuck my eye onto it because it is "THE" watch to get because it is cool and you get the honour to be a "Paneristi". I was crazy for that particular watch (PAM 000) to the level of putting down my name in the waiting list at the AD in Pavilion (they havent call me yet lol

) but the fever on it died down. Why?
I asked myself why I wanted to buy it? The reason because everybody else was wearing it but once i tried it on my wrist (tru one of the forumer) it does not look right on my wrist and somehow I don have the "feel" when wearing it. What is the point of buying it if I don't even have the "feel" or chemistry between the watch and me (sounded like I am going after girl to be my GF

). Therefore, i decide not to go after it. No offence to Panerai lover ya
So buy whatever watch that satisfy you regardless of what other people think about it
LastlyEnjoy the hobby and
PLEASE don't judge people by what watch are they wearing like what those people in watchshop does

A person who may owned a few humble seiko vintage diver can be more
WAY MORE PASSIONATE than a person who bought gazillion ringgit watch but do not know anything about it.

Enjoy the hobby and
smile like the girl in my avatar... lol
