Nothing wrong with Seiko, honest brand with great honest watches. I would guess it is one of the very few companies that can cater to the needs of a cross section of the population, offering great entry watches to top of the range expensive models. Anyway my Seikos say hi...

Gigi,

Never a problem for me as I don't really care what they think. I have some of these very people as 'friends' and they always ask why I collect, sorry have Seiko watches. They continue to show of their watches whose name they can't even pronounce. How these master watch makers make their own movements and how they are so creative, etc, etc, etc.

Well I just smile and agree. Little do they know these so called great artisans of watch making all start with the simple ETA movement when they started their trade and or training. They look down on the simple ETA movement or the basic 7s26 or even the Miyota 8125. I have an analogy for these people, they seems to think that there are students because there are teachers. The truth? There are teachers because there are students.

hanz079,

Hahahaha we can cross swords anytime and I am sure we would have an interesting discussion and we both will come out learning something.

It is just that it gets me every time we have these 'high end' people looking down of the common hard working people and their collection of watches. It is as if the collection is not worthy of being called a collection. Everybody has to start some where.

To be honest,  its sad to say some people grade their own collection based on the money they paid. The more expensive the collction (lets say the artasan brand like MBF or titanic watch) the more valuable their collection. Remember the "dirt grade" and "no eye see grade" on another topic, some of ppl applied this principle.

I have a friend of mine who dad is a watch collector and he is wearing a omega seamaster bond (the one with 1120), He keep telling me about his dad collection very good & very easy to sell it off (I hate ppl who thing watch is for selling). When i show my fortis to him, his face was like "what the hell is this". He told me go get other brand watch as this watch (my fortis) has no value, I was like wtf  :HammerHead:.  I asked him if his dad had Lolex in his collection, I told him that lolex movement & watch are one of the simplest & easy to repair (robust). His answer is "Oh my family all dont like rolex, because it is overhype and its overpriced"... When he said this, I was again like Wtfed and like you said i just nod and agree with what he say because I too lazy to argue with him because he is the type of person who see the label on the dial of the watch and not other factor.

The Hobbit, I guess in the end of the day we should more concern about our satification of our own watch collection then other people watch because in the end of the day WE are the one who is wearing it and not the other people. For me i wear watch to "shiok sendiri" and satisfy myself lol  If other dont like or look down at our collection then like you said its their lost and their own problem.

didnt know this thread got revived..hahaha!!

anyway, as TS, i hope i didnt offend anyone...

to be honest, the person i was talking about didnt sound offensive or intimidating. (i checked back what i wrote and i dont think i painted him that way too...)

I actually see him as nice and friendly, willing to strike up a conversation and talk to me, and even give me 2 free glossy magazines.  I've came across people with a title, status and connections who are just plain arrogant.  He have all 3 and looked friendly

Interestingly, there was an article on the paper 2-3 weeks ago on him and his passion for watches.

i think,
collecting watches is a hobby, whatever the intention is it, study watches, or show off or whatever, as long as you're happy with it, and then theres no wrong with you. as long as ur not hurting ppl in purpose or doing something bad to harm ppl.

forget bout what other thinks bout you or ur watches. come on we live for ourselves not for others. high end low end its all nice watches, sharing!!
theres nothing to do with how other thinks bout you its how you mind bout what ppl think bout u.

why so serious ppl

well, thats what i think and its just my opinion. sharing~ you may disagree it, just smile n be happy =)

The one with 4 push button/crown look unusual, what is that?

Hobbit-I am curious about this one as well.

The watch is a Seiko 7A28-7079 from the 7A28 series of chronograph. I got this watch sort of as a consolation prize as I could not get an actual military (British) issued 7A28. The crown is at the 8 o'clock position. The chronograph buttons are at the 2 o'clock (start/ stop), 4 o'clock (reset) and 10 o'clock (split). The 7A28 is unique as it is a 15 jewels quartz movement. I like it and am looking to get others in the series, especially the 7A28-7040.

Not sure. It does say Japan on the dial. These watches are very old, but I like them.
