Evening fellow comrades

Just recent bought a 5 year old IWC portofino vintage moonphase ref 5448-01. Been eyeing for one and was lucky to find a SG based seller and my watch yesterday. The previous owner mentioned the watch need to be re-oil again and servicing since its already 5 years since he purchased it. Was told by IWC they need 4 month to service it and it will cost me above 3k to do so.

Am wondering if any of you have used local service centers that services swiss watches or better still they are familiar with IWC watches? Can anyone share they experience and their recommended service centers?

It up to individual service or not, my regular watch technician said as long your watch is running fine don't need service.
Most of watches bought new/used all are more than 20 years, now most of the watch company said need service 3 to 5 years
regular service just like our car...

I got a couple of watch only 2 serviced and both were over 8 years and their time accuracy needed daily adjustment. So I don't use the 5 year rule. Both were charged for general servicing with no replacement part.

From info shared in forum, some mention usually if you don't follow the 5 year rule some parts maybe broken due to lubricant dry up inside before it starts kicking up problems. Mine was not.

Hi, Sorry to interrupt here ;D. Just want to share my experience. I'm quite new in watches, only 5 years ago I had start buying swiss watches. Now, I have a few collection.

One of my watch is Mido. Bought it around 2014. I got to SC last month to collect my other watch but at the same time I had ask them to check the timekeeping of my Mido watch. I said if it is ok, I want to bring back my watch, if not I want to service it since it is still under warranty. They have a timegrapher I think to check the timekeeping more accurately.

They said, my watch need full maintenance. It is just only almost 2 years. Now I wonder, why it already need a service. It is because I seldom wear that watch? The automatic watch that is fully wound everyday has a long service interval than seldom wear automatic watch? If any watchmaker here, I want to know which part is the "wear" part in watch movement. If it like a car, you have no option but to change the timing belt no matter how you taking care of your car.

I have a few automatic watch and I start to  feel the pressure of the cost of maintenance that I have to face next year ahead.

i think full service every 5 years is up to individual.. but it my opinion is best to send it for check up. To touch up where are the wear parts.

my previous experience, i send a watch to check up and i always get common feedback on water resistance tube. It usually worn out before 5 years... the SC will ask me to decide whether i wanted to change it for a fee or risk of water getting inside the watch? So far my checking at Swatch SC is free, they will examine and inform you what need to be change.

In this case, if you are not going anywhere near to water (diving)...then you may save up the cost and wait till the watch is not running smooth.

How many years warranty does Mido provide? This sounds like a problem that they warranty should cover?

Thanks for the reply guys

For my case, the watch needs to be re-lubricated as even winding the watch now is quite stiff and Im afraid that Im gonna break it. This is my fourth IWC and my other IWCs dont have such problem. So was wondering if any of you guys had expereince sending the watch to local companies as IWC informed that they'll need 4 months to service the waatch....  :Startled:

There's a corner watch shop in summit Subang Jaya on the floor above the car park. He charges about rm 600 for servicing a Rolex (includes gaskets but excluding other parts) and rm 150 for my  1960s Titus automatic watch. Takes about 3 weeks for a Rolex. There's another shop on a higher floor in summit mall but not sure about quality or can be trusted. The first one is an elderly gentleman and an old hand.
