Totally agree! He has no credibility to talk about watches! The only person that can talk about both cars and watches is in this very forum, our one and only @r3kahsstub

Jeremy is a lot of things .....but him talking about watches is akin to Paultan talking about handbags! Lol.... And what he said about Rolex just proved just that!

and could co-exist in one's collection. Having owned the Burgundy BB, I could say with conviction that the BB was a great watch and really under-rated. The brand is giving you lots of "watch" for the monies that you paid. I am waiting for the Black BB to hit the showroom, where I believed that I may be swayed to own the BB again. Having said that, the Moonwatch is a very handsome vintage piece- what with its hand-winding movement and hesalite crystal. I am also looking for a good piece myself; and at the right price and condition, I would part monies for this historical piece. Either way, you won't go wrong with either pieces...

Bro @nikfs1881, don't say like that bro. I am jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none.

Price aside, if I had to pick between the two, I would have gone for the speedy pro. However, given that a brand new speedy pro costs in the region of RM19k and the BB retails for under RM13k, I would sway towards the BB as it is the much more affordable of the two.

I just tried on a BB Black. No chemistry with me once I see it on my wrist. Even though it's 41mm, it somehow looks oversized on my wrist.

Perhaps you should also display the nato version.
The stainless steel BBB feel a little cold, doesn't really jive with the warm / vintage feel dial

I also checked out the Speedmaster Pro at the Omega boutique. Comes with the case including 3 different straps. Very tempting. If it was in the old 38mm, I would've bought it already. Too bad (or should it be - luckily) they no longer come in 38mm. The salesperson said there was a 'midsize' version, though he's not sure if they still stock it - and he was so hesitant to check for me, I was like nevermind la - you just missed out on a sale.

Someone, please post up a pre-loved SMP for sale.

To say that Omega is a Rolex wanna-be is just plain brand snobbery. Both are good brands from different companies. Rolex was 007 watch of choice and now its the Omega.

Guess the main question is, what functions do you prefer? The chrono or the 200m underwater usability. Both are desirable watches with different capabilities and at 2 different price points so you have to decide yourself, which one "talks" to you better.

For me, the speedy rocks!

I've read that at one point in time, samsung sees itself as a sony wannabe.. continuously positions itself to compete w sony.. & now, many years on, one can say that they are good brands from different companies.. competing at equal level..

& so i say omega wants to be a rolex competitor.. are they there yet? Definitely not.. rolex still is by far the brand of choice in malaysia.. maybe one day tiger woods would choose omega over rolex..

If not for brand snobbery, we'd all be wearing seiki 5s

Definitely moonwatch on the historical 861 or 863 or the 1861/1863 calibers.. tho i dont understand why those are at 2 years warranty instead of the normal 4 years warranty..

To me, Rolex or omega for 007 simple doesn't matter. The 007 endorsement, if anything, cheapened the watch.
I admire real people in the real world and not some fictional character (I do watch Bond though, but I am not an 007 wannabe). And which brand 007 choose, is simply a function of which brand paid the producer more.
Btw, in Ian Fleming's book, 007 wears Rolex Explorer, and I supposed Rolex didn't pay him for endorsement.

Back to the topic, I do dig the moon watch story because it is real tool used by real people in mission that is really important.
Also, omega paid NASA nothing. They just produced a better watch (back then).

That said, if you pitch Omega vs Rolex, I will pick Rolex anyday.
I like their stubbornness in making good better. Their engineering, material, precision is simply very good.
And I also like the fact that they just do what they did, do not pay too much attention to fashion.
Rolex Submariner looks the same for the untrained eye - from 1950-2015.

Omega Seamaster series? I lost count of how many different varieties out there when it come to size, colour, and the dial itself.
The first DOTM was great. Second was OK. But now, I cant recall how many was launched earlier this year? 3/4 different colour?

Thanks very much for the link and the info contained therein.

I think I must have been mistaken then. I always thought that the moonwatch came in two different sizes for men - a full-sized version and a mid-size or 'boy-size' of 38mm. And I had thought that they have since stopped releasing it in the 38mm size, retaining only the 42mm.

I see now that this is incorrect, though interestingly enough, there were 2 speedmasters at the AD - the hand-wound moonwatch, and a speedmaster coaxial. Anyways, I think I'll have to try on the 42mm and reassess if its too big for my wrist.

Yes, they still make the smaller speedy (speedy reduced, speedy triple date), but just FYI, I have some friends with pretty small wrists, and still manage to pull off the speedy pro. But yes, best to try it on before you decide on one. And should you decide that a speedy is really what you want... then you can do no wrong with the (larger) speedy pro!

You can look at it from different angle.

Some would recommend you based on your current collection setup.

Alternately. If ur looking for a daily beater. Both qualifies. If you want something low key, you should go for the moonwatch. If you want tool watch that people will notice, then you should get a BB.

Also worth to note that to me, BB is a halfway house to a Sub.
