First choice of luxury watches
« on: April 12, 2015, 07:47:49 PM »
If you had to choose which luxury brand would you pick as your first watch and why?In terms of finishing, aethestics, prestigious and feel on the wrist....It can be any brand you desire, may it be people's all time favourite Rolex & Omega or watch aficionado's choice like IWC ~

As a first timer, I would choose a well known brand. I will go with Panerai, Omega, IWC, B&R or Tag Huer. Knowing better now I will go for Omega, Seiko, Rolex or IWC.

Panerai looks awfully similar to me. Having one is enough for me with limited spending budget. I believe many disagree with me on Pam. :) I find AP and JLC bit like princesses, need to baby them. not to mention, they are twice or triple the price of Rolex which beyond my spending budget.

My first one is IWC. I know many sifus here will go for Rolex, JLC, PAM or Omega because of the movement or the resell value.
I got IWC for the first one because it is my dream to really owned one. Not about movement not about price... sometimes is all about how you feel when you have it. That is priceless... Seriously every time I look at my IWC I feel great!!
IWC Pilot Chronograph 3777, Oris Big Crown Complication, Longines Hydro Conquest, Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium Auto, Tissot Couturier Quartz Chronograph, Orient FEM76002B9 Automatic, Seiko Chronograph World Time 7T62 OJHO, AVI-8 Solar Power AV-4018-03, Casio AE-1200WH, G-Shock GA-110RG, G-Shock G-300, G-Cool GT-000

When i had lower budget Tag and Omega was great.

When I went next stage I went for Panerai. I like the simple, uncluttered and clean dial vs the rest of the watch brands around. I also like the feature which we can change the straps easily which was not available in my past watches. the watch feels news everytime I change a different strap so a cheap way to not have many watches to get this same feeling.

On my next stage, I am looking at  historical heritage and finishing features like AP, JLC, VC, Hublot but at the moment I still find their design very messy and cluttered. Somehow I prefer clean and simple dials. Biggest problem of course is budget. If I could afford I would probably buy them for another variety cause the finishing on this watches are great too.

If the watch is expensive, I want it cannot be scratched, which is full ceramic.
among those high end brand, only Panerai and Hublot have full ceramic model, which will be my next target.

Hopefully Omega dark side of the moon will out a ceramic bracelet version.

I think the omega moon watch is a good start. Be it second hand or new, it has a story to tell about their ancestor that went up to moon and the lemania is a good movement. I believe a lot of collectors will definetely own one in their lifetime. But i am not sure the lemania movement is still available new nowadays.   happy hunting !

Step 1: collect all the pictures of the watches you like

Step 2: erase all the brand names on those watches

Step 3: have a second look at those watches and make your decision....

I think a reasonable valued watch should be the first choice... normally it takes you awhile before you actually realise what kind of watches you actually want to buy... so no point in spending big money only to buy something wrong... I would go for a tag, or any other Swiss brand at the lower end of the market.... then work my way up... that's just my two cents...
