which Cali Dial to choose?
« on: September 19, 2014, 02:33:12 PM »
I plan to acquire a Cali dial Radiomir to complete my Panerai journey (finger cross). I am torn between Pam 249, Pam 448 and Pam 424 (date or w/o date or whatever it is) ;D.

I believe MWF got plenty of Panerai enthusiast so may I know which one would you go for and what your view (left alone the price)? Other watch lover also welcome to vote and comment.

I would go for 424 for inhouse movement, sapphier glass for daily wear for practicality and I find the yellow hands gives a better colour synchonisation. But if exclusivity is priority then the limited edition 448.

It all depends on which one sings to you most. The 249 carries the Unitas/ETA movement modified to look like the original movement. WR is 3ATM and the crystal is acrylic. The 448 is of course newer and has the Panerai in house movt. The case is thicker as is the case back. The WR is also 10ATM and the crystal is acrylic. Both 249 and 448 are SE. With the 448 is lesser numbers and does not have the stigma of having the OOR hanging over its head. But prices does not reflect this... :)

The dials are different between the 249 and 448, the minute track on the 448 is closer to the edge of the dial, giving the impression that the hands are shorter. There are other differences...

The 424.... Date or no date? Which one do you like? Ok with the logo? Ok with the gold hands?

My choice? 448... Why? Price. It is cheaper then 249. The 249 being an I series, 2006. It is going to be 8 years old, service will be due, if not already. Add that to the cost....

Gold hands nice but not with California dial... Also vintage Pam with Cali dial is blued hands
Hence left with 249 n 448

Thinner 249 case male it closer to vintage one. Pam Unitas is one of the most beautiful modified Unitas.

So call in house in Pam is not as good looking n robust than the modified Unitas one.

Anywhere, I will choose either one...  As long as price is right

hi all,

thanks for the feed back...

Now I narrow down to 249 and 448 since I prefer blue hands.  Just wonder would Panerai come out new Cali Dial pack with Gold hands later?? ::)

249 all the way. Of course the price is not on the friendly side. My advice is weight the price difference and see if is ok for you.

In the end of the day. Why get 2nd best if you can get the best (with manageable sacrifice)

Regard
Tyler
