Rolex new 2014 line up - What do you think?
« on: March 27, 2014, 07:12:31 AM »
Yesterday after looking at all the new pieces released by Rolex. I was really impressed by the Pepsi GMT and the Sea Dweller. Just wondering what the enthusiast here at mwf think about them?

For me:

The Pros:

I am dreaming of the Pepsi GMT.  I love how Rolex brought back the classic Pan Am colours. Might be my next dream haha. I already ordered a non rolex piece this year so maybe next year.

Also a big fan of reintroduction of the sea dweller. Really amazing.

The Cons:

Was hoping for a rolex perpetual moonphase type of come back. sadly didn't happen but the GMT Pepsi made up for it for sure. And not really excited about the 3 new daytonas.

Just browse the Rolex website saw these predicted models.

They hear well the from the consumer.

They have prepared what the consumer wants.

That's why they are so successful.

My opinion:-

Pepsi preowned prices has gone up. Ppl are snapping up the discontinued model. Therefore I think they see this demand they make it into white gold to milk more. I believe the price will be high but ppl are willing to pay for a new Pepsi in white gold.

SD too the price of the pre owned has gone up. Every time if you noticed the model on sale is very fast being snapped up. And again they noticed the demand for a smaller DSSD.

That's my opinion

Was told that the SD's RRP is CHF 9,900 i.e. @3.6/3.7 its approx. RM 36K..... :P

Excitement has turned to disappointment and a further deferment to return to owning a Rolex.

Lets just hope Rolex make a stainless-steel version of the Pepsi :Praying:
Besides from that, the new cellini is beautiful too ;D

All in all, I personally feel it's a great showing from Rolex.

The GMTiic Pepsi - Ppl have been saying they want it for ages... and now they got it... in white gold. I think it's a genius move. Those who want a Pepsi will have to pay for it. Will it come in stainless steel in the future? I doubt it. This model is positioned in the same league as the white gold blue Submariner. You see a blue sub = white gold. Same here... you see a pepsi = white gold.
If they were to release a Pepsi in stainless steel, it would defeat the purpose of a white gold piece in the 1st place.
But we can still hope for a Coke in stainless steel in the near future though.

The new Cellini - I find it interesting. Is this a sign of Rolex moving into complications? But in Rolex fashion which is turtle paced... lol... Will it give the similarly segment from the usual PP, VC, AP a run for it's money? Only time will tell.

The Seadweller 4000 aka SDc - I find this release as Rolex's way of telling us that the big watch fad is over. A smaller cased and thinner watch than the DSSD but with and extra 100m water resistant rating? (4000m vs 3900m) What does that tell you?
Nice watch... Heavy duty... Price wise is abit stiff.

The blue dialed Milgauss - Erm.... would be nice if it comes with a blue tinted sapphire crystal instead of the green one. Will the colours clash? I dunno... but I am skeptical that this colour combo would work. But I am not Rolex... They SHOULD know what they're doing...

I also don't think that Pepsi will come in SS. If they did that how are we going to identify the WG. But damn the retail price of this is nuts. I assume that Rolex price rise is coming. At the moment it looks like pepsi GMT is retailing more then the smurf sub and gold daytonas. Normally it retails below sub.

Looks like I'm the only 'weird' one here as I have no love for the new Pepsi, the new SD, the new Cellini....

And I think the new Milgauss looks amazing with the blue dial!

The new Seadweller WR at 4000m? I thought is 4000ft = 1220m?

So for now, wallet contents are safe  :Laughing_on_floor:

Yes you are right Gmac... my mistake...
DSSD still trump it on WR rating.  :)

Very handsome line-up and the Pepsi really sets the heart a-fluttering. If only they would release it in s/steel too...

I was a little stunned too bro Hanz. Cos with a smaller case and higher WR, it would signify that there is a huge leap in tech by Rolex to make the DSSD redundant. In fact I was looking to sell the DSSD to go for the SD since at 40mm, it is more wearable.

You will be making a big mistake if you sell rolex 1st watch with a ceramic bezel.Very soon when there are less in the market the price will sky rocket . In future , rolex are not going to sell the DSSD cheap, compare to the material used for the SD namely the 5mm thick sapphire ,clasp, WR n etc. Moreover if you look carefully at the new Sd thick lugs and compare it with the discontinue SD you will go for the latter with its slick n shapely lugs.

Pepsi is nice but prefer it to be in SS from the price perspective.
In WG, and for that kind of money, I would rather spend on something else.

I am impressed with the Cellini line up.

Yup, look weird for the color combination
