The more I touch it, the worse it gets! What went wrong? too dry? too old? Puzzle me cos it's only like 3 years maybe. Thx

happened to my Tag box too.
the box's material is slightly rubbery

Its known to happen to Omega boxes (at least the older ones). I have one thats going through similar disintegration. I think its due to excessive heat and moisture thats corroding the material......

Something similar happened to all my Oris cases......it became sticky... like the rubber coating melted.....

Mine Citizen case also same problem, felt sticky and finally just thrown it, i think iwc watch box also have same problem. The breitling one good, glossy hard plastic

so far we have;
1. Tag Heuer
2. Maurice Lacroix
3. Ball
4. Citizen
5. Oris
6. Omega
7. Rado
8. Longines.

The watches cost a bomb,but the boxes are hopelessly inferior.
Boxes are just kept there,they should last as long as the watches itself,even my storage carton boxes last longer than that

Any AD out reading this should feed back this to the respective brands.
I'm sure the list is longer than the above

Its PU material, same as shoe. if you dont wear it for some time. it will become like this.

based on what I have, I think Panerai gives you the best box, in terms of size, quality, material.

Rolex one is ok, but it feels cheap next to the Panerai box

Wow, i thought i'm the only one. I think I may have to throw it away too. too bad for resale value , a good box is a plus i suppposed.. Well I guess my next watch box will be kept in the air conditioning room.

My IWC was the worst of the lot..grimy to the touch after 5 years and leaves finger prints and smudges all over

IWC boxes will fall apart. Useless PU material.
Everything should be in polished wood boxes with felt interior

I'm not too sure.
I've a red cartier santos box which I've had since 1998.
It's still in it's original condition.(it's kept in my store room)
What's your cartier model and which year?

Jules is right, use silica gel or some kinda dessicant, like Thirsty Hippo beside the box. You won't know how much moisture gets inside, the material will just degrade and break.

The watch manufacturer shall take a look on it, my citizen box feels sticky after sometime, very disappointed...

Not only watch boxes but Merc ,Volvo cars have sticky control knobs after a few years and sticky to the touch .

My Omega watch box was kept in a drawer, in a room that has no windows and is air conditioned 30% of the time. After over 7 years of being left in a drawer, I took it out some months back only to watch it crumble.

Maybe you bought the models made for European/Japanese weather, not tropicalised models?
