Poor Care. ?

Too humid, turn to dew and moth. spoils even the leather straps. Buy an electrical DE-humidfier and the reading from the hygro will come down to 55 and it will be idle n  dry for comfortable living as well . regards tony.

The more I touch it, the worse it gets! What went wrong? too dry? too old? Puzzle me cos it's only like 3 years maybe. Thx

I thought it only happens to my Tag Heuer & Longines boxes. Both Tags costing more than rm15000 each but the boxes just disintegrate disgracefully. A Monaco and wife's full diamonds aquaracer. Was told only Grand Carrera series was provided with wooden box. The Longines boz were already in poor condition when i bought it fr MWF fella but now in worse condition that i am afraid to touch it. Much like fungal infestations. However my Maurice Lacroix MP series was provided in wooden case which remains unblemished since 2yrs ago
 The polish wood has some scratches though.

Not only watch boxes but Merc ,Volvo cars have sticky control knobs after a few years and sticky to the touch .

Maybe you bought the models made for European/Japanese weather, not tropicalised models?

What I had was locally assembled tropicalised models

Seriously though.. prior to storing my boxes, I usually wipe them with some leather care products so that they last longer.

Thank you all for the advice. I think i 'd use plastic wrap on my next watch box plus another plastic bag to wrap it. b4 wraping i'd vacuum the air to maximum then Sellotape it.
So next time when i decide to sell my watch the tag will read  "plus box and paper".

If you wrap it in plastic it will only get worse .  Ac is not a DE-humidfier. Pls read my earlier post above . Pls go to wikkipedia and read what is humidity and a hygro meter to understand more. I have problems like these for over 20 years until i bought an electrical  De - humidfier. The immediate result you will see is no more moth on your leather waist belt in the wardrobe. I have tried everything you guys are doing now, it wont work.regards tony

My wife threw my sticky IWC box away

Guess, this is a common problem with boxes that has sponge or rubberised surfaces.

My Omega box is long gone now after 7 yrs. Crumbling pieces falling off and sticky too. Even my IWC box with its rubbery feeling exterior starts to feel a little sticky after 3 yrs.

It must be our weather which is hot and humid.

you can describe it as plus box, paper and air from several years ago..

Put all your watch boxes in a dry cabinet where DLSRs are kept

The watch manufacturer shall take a look on it, my citizen box feels sticky after sometime, very disappointed...

Yes, my citizen box too. Especially, the latest model square box, it get sticky faster than the old model box.

You are so right. My Merc has the sticky plastic problem after 5yrs owning the car.

so far we have;
1. Tag Heuer
2. Maurice Lacroix
3. Ball
4. Citizen
5. Oris
6. Omega
7. Rado
8. Longines.

The watches cost a bomb,but the boxes are hopelessly inferior.
Boxes are just kept there,they should last as long as the watches itself,even my storage carton boxes last longer than that
Any AD out reading this should feed back this to the respective brands.
I'm sure the list is longer than the above

Then EPOS box is so much better because it is pure wooden box. It will be no issue for another hundred years.

Most boxes use similar materials, can't keep long... Wonder whether the new omega moonwatch BIG box will last given its rm3k new price justify by presentation box..

So far old Rolex boxes still ok
