Buy properties, shares, unit trusts, bonds etc for investment...Not watches..WIS NEVER think his/her watches as an investment..

Watch for investment is a myth. 99% of watches lost money the moment you walk out of the boutique. Rolex is already one that holds value very well. i bought a brand new 8 years ago, now latest price already increased by 50%. i tried ask the dealer how much if i wanna sell, they quoted 34% below my 8 year old price.

That is generally the value for a pre-owned Rolex after the dealer considers a polish, minor service if needed, and profit.

I have the impression that buying a Rolex is making money due to yearly 10% increase in price. This is what the watch seller told me. During is Father time a rolex datejust only cost 4k. Now I have to pay 20k. 10 year from now I have to pay 40k. So buy now.

Good to buy now. Price increase are for new pieces and it does not necessarily mean 2nd hand prices will be higher.

Getting off-topic but...

Prices are always going up for buyers. When selling, prices aren't as high as you'd hope for.

But selling what you bought now more than 10 years later is something different.

To both these questions I think it's personally and only you can decide your next move.

As for weather is buying a watch an investment?,if you're an investor,yes. Obviously an investor knows what to buy.
And if you're like the majority,buying a watch is definitely not an investment.And if you made some money along the way,just count yourself lucky.
But you should not let the thought of buying a "no resale value" watch deter from buying it,otherwise your collections will only be Rolex,Rolex and more Rolex.

Sorry but not an investment. Like some said, buy used watches to minimize the damage. Also shop around for the best prices too. Lastly, enjoy the watch you have. No point buying a watch for "investment" when the watch itself was locked in safe  value will go out. Prices changes cos of inflation and the yearly price increase of some manufacturer

What about 'emotional' investment? I bought a watch when my child was born. I wear the watch everyday, and one day, when she is old enough, I will pass on that watch to her. Hopefully, when I am no longer around, the watch will remind her of me and the good times we have shared.

Haha. Then I guess you are one of the lucky ones. Major barrier for me (when it comes to purchasing watches) is the Home Minister. Extremely difficult to obtain approval.
