I have worn even Seiko/Citizen watches in the region of RM1k to those higher-class boutiques and received what I would deemed as acceptable reception. Sometimes, it ain't so much as to what we were wearing on our wrist, but how we carried yourself. I like wearing shirts and bermudas for the comfiness, and I ain't too concerned about what watch I was wearing when I visit the watch boutiques. And contrary to some of your popular beliefs, gold Rolexes ain't a staple for Datuks. I myself prefer my S/S SD/Sub and Speedy Panda. So it's kind of funny if some of us think that we need to dress up in order to go look at watches. Therefore, I would think that a Speedy Pro is a great watch, and great wear whether as a daily-beater or to go to a boutique to look at better watches.

This is very very true and im agreeing 100%

Had no issues of wearing any sort of appearance. Infact i sometimes come down to boutiques without watch at all. I believe they want you just to be sure and clear what you want an to try on.

Wise word from Datuk himself ;)

I don't make any special attention to dressing up when visiting watch shops. I just wear anything that I want to that day, eg from tshirts and shorts to shirts and slacks.

No matter which way I dress, theres no noticeable difference in attitude from the staff.

IMHO, if the staff is snobbish, no matter how we dress they will still act the same. It all boils down to the staff attitude.

Agree with above. No special or specific way of dressing. Actually, that's not completely accurate; I'm always in shorts and slippers :Dancing_banana:

Today I went to 2 watch shops in JB that selling mainly preowned stuffs.

To assure the watches that I wanted are available so I ring them up first.

The first shop pick up my phonecall is a Chinese guy, he does not want to reveal much and just urge me to go to their shop to take a look. By the time I step in I ask the GMT and Explorer to take a look but he is reluctant and only bring out the Explorer I for. I ask for a decent discount. He looks at me with robot eyes screening me from head to toe, and with a cold robot face and then answers me in robot tone : " our watches are net price, there are no discount." I think to my self: ok, well, sorry. That's too bad that you lost my business. :o

Ok, I continued to the 2nd watch and in fact this 2nd shop is the main office of the 1st shop. The Malay lady that answered my phonecall is very polite, she informs me that the black red bezel GMT was sold but there are many more watches that should have one will suit me. her attitude is professionally equally polite even when I step into the shop.

The black dial Explorer II is spot-on. I just ask the same "discount" thing . The good attitude and smiley Chinese guy just quickly give me a decent 2% discount , then the rest is history. The Explorer II went home with me.

By the way, I wear a round neck grey color t-shirt and a beige color long pants with a bright green Bata brand "power" sport shoes  :Laughing_on_floor: . My wrist is having Ball mad cow that time.

Story continues....

Today I flipping the business card that given by the Chinese guy from the watc shop main office in which I got my Rolex yesterday. That guy is the shop owner!

The theory here are: i) the boss attitude to all customers / potential customers are the best; ii) the boss is more professional than his staffs in all aspects.

The same logic goes: the shop owner or watch shop staffs that equip with "ownership" mindset , do not care what the potential customers wear and dress. They just love their job and happy to serve anyone that step into their shop.

Agree with above, my experience with shop owner or senior salesperson is always better.

I remember the time when i got my speedy pro, i was just wearing a normal Orient to a boutique, a senior salesperson greet me politely, asking me what am i looking for, taking it out & let me try on my wrist without hesitation, and explain to me the story & history behind the watch, while a younger salesperson looking at me doubtfully while we are discussing, perhaps i looks too young to him.

After some discussion & negotiation with the senior salesperson, i agreed with the price & gave him my credit card, that moment i can notice the younger salesperson started to wonder.

I think it's the matter of how those salesperson judge whether u r a potential customer or not, and their judgement decides whether they get sales from u or not, where as a buyer u don't lose anything.

Some time ago, a couple of colleagues and myself were staying at a hotel where the ground floor was a watch shop. After a serious night discussion, we realised that there was 15 mins before the shops downstairs would close so we went for a quick walk around. If you imagine the scenario whereby a few chaps dressed in golf shirts, bermudas, and hotel slippers walking into the shop some 15 mins before closing, chances of making purchases would be relatively small. Since we walked down casually, we had no wallets or cards with us; so we said that we were just window-shopping.

But the SM was a cool chap whom knew his watches, and we spent the next 25 mins (yeah, he extended the closing time for us) trying watches and talking about movements. He was okay with us just trying 'em watches and not buying. He said most people tend to try the watches a few times before buying anyway, since these were luxury goods.

We returned the next day and picked up a couple of DJs from him.

Yesterday, met a classic example of snobbish watch shop owner.

I usually like to step in to watch shops and browse around, this shop was selling Seiko and G shock's.

The boss looked at me and asked, '' You want to buy watch or not? "

As usual, I'll answer "let me take a look first"

He replied: "look see 20sen, you wanna buy, buy. No look see. "

I left the shop...... ::)

This is really weird. Doubt whether how long the shop can sustain if the owner continue with this weird attitude...

That is just so wrong to say something like that to a customer. There must something clearly wrong with him. He is digging a grave for himself in this business.

Now that happens when someone's doing a business that he doesn't like it

Then goes by having no profit and zero customer

Boo him

speaking of SAs with lousy attitude, i think there's this one guy from C shop in KLCC that takes the cake. Feel free to experience some Malaysian courtesy when you happen to be there LOL
