Not a big fan of Croco strap.Only have an OEM dark brown Alligator strap in hand for formal wear.
A bit disappointed with Dirk buckle,it's a bit too thin and light. But after all,the Italian hide from Tuscana is soft and the color is stunning!

Particularly like this cracked OEM Strap,It's extremely soft and comfy to wear.

wow nice guys. i really have got no strength to take photos of my boxes. but maybe i will try it sometime later today/tomorrow.
but i reckon the following still -
vintage italian - go for dirk, mario paci, original kodiak
gator - simona
ammo - kevin,paolo,tedsu
OEM - go for the assolumente, and the new improved vintage cracked leather for 368,372 etc
shark - dirk,mario paci
i didn't mention wotancraft because i only had 1 from him and didn't really like his work. but his new collection looks awesome but a bit more pricey.
i will try to share my straps later on.
-
ok! i've decided to take sometime and do a photo session. unfortunately i only used my lousy htc phone, so it doesn't really do any justice to the straps.

<AMMOS!>
the best part of panerais, to me is about the ammo straps. basically all made from war time ammunition bags. some of them still smell of gunpowder.

Curious to know guys, when did all this PAM+Strap fever started?
How did it start?
Its amazing how a relatively small community of strap makers before suddenly have such a big market and group of people joining.
As with anything Panerai, started with the collectors. They wanted something different and the oem could not meet or supply. So they (those with the skill) tried to make their own. Showed the straps on line and suddenly others asked if they could make and sell the straps. Others latched on to the idea and concept that there was money to be made. The rest, as they say, is history.
True that there are lots of strap makers in the market, but have to choose, if not, can go crazy. Not only that, even material and styles. Oh well, at least it is cheaper than a new watch. ::)

From the watch boyz canada
-
Nice stingray, however my fav strap at the moment and perhaps for a long time is this one. The strap was commissioned by the Italian Naval Museum to replace the straps on their collection of Panerai watches and instruments. The makers has 10 extra left over and this is one of them. The leather is from 1940s and has been treated and washed in seawater to give it a vintage looks and feel much like the original straps it replaces.

Dear Sifu,
I recently acquire a PAM005 and already thinking of getting a few different straps to suit my mood.
A couple of newbie questions if I may : Where do I find out whether the PAM005 is going for 24/24mm or the 24/22mm strap?
Secondly, if I were to purchase my strap online, is there a code or a specification word that I should know if I want to get a shorter strap? My wife's wrist is very very skinny and the default strap do not fit her.
Thus I'm thinking of buying some online (it's reasonably cheap here in Beijing, where I work) but I need to know what I'm ordering.
Many thanks in advance.

bro,
for 005, oem strap is 24/22, but mostly risti like to get 24/24. All 44mm pams fit in 24mm straps. So 1st you need to know your wrist size before you start surfing o placing order.
normally if u surf online u should c 24/24 70/115, 75/120, 80/130. all this is the strap lenght. the front digit means the shorter part with the buckle. 115 is the other side. so you need to determine your comfortable size you wear then only you can place order.
-
Hi gloomis,
You mean that my PAM005 can fit either a 24/22 or a 24/24? It won't put any stress on the buckle?
What is the meaning of oem strap by the way?
I see now, that's exactly what I'm looking for. 70/115 = 70mm being the short part of the strap while 115mm being the long part of the strap.
So before I order, I need to measure my wife's wrist, and pick the strap that suits her.
Excellent! Thanks a million.

pam 005 is a 44mm watch. OEM means the original strap. the oem strap size is 24/22, the tip end is smaller compare the lug area. u can surf some image on the different of 24/22 n 24/24 then you know what i m talking about. you can ask your wife to fit the oem strap then you start working from there. lady wrist normally smaller so i think 70/115 is nice. if not you can custom made the size accordingly to fit her.
-
Hi gloomis,
Yes I understand that 24/22 means the tip end of the strap is smaller. My concern is that if I were to get a 24/24 (which is more common from what I see) it will just put unnecessary stress on the buckle as you know, the buckle is build for 22mm. As I will only be purchasing strap only without the buckle, I need to be sure that the 24/24 strap will fit the PAM005 default buckle.
My apologies if I'm long winded, I just want to be clear.
Generally, it seems that the shorter strap will only have 1 "strap holder" (is that the right word to use?), do you think it look weird? There is no right or wrong but I'm seeking your comment.

Bro, normally risti wont use bak the oem buckle. what we normally do is we order sewn in buckle 24/24, means strap will come together with pre v buckle. oem buckle cant fit in a 24/24 strap at all. So normally what you see online is all sewn in buckle and this is 1 of the true spirit of pams

these ammo straps...are they comfortable for day to day wear?

these ammo straps...are they comfortable for day to day wear?
Yes, the good ones are. Personally I find Kevin (Adeeos) , Paulo18 and Septimus are the most comfortable.

Micah produces some very very comfortable straps especially his Metta strap :) Love his work.

normally we change the strap n buy new buckle together Oem strap is short n is 24/22. If u wan short d, custom make it, that r lot of good custom maker strap around the world... Btw if u buy. 24/24 strap.. The original buckle is can't be use, u need to replace a 24mm d...I own a 0005 too, all my strap r custom make by Peter gunny
-
Fellow PAM owners, one thing to remember here.
Panerai does not make a 24mm tang buckle, despite what you might sometimes see for sale labeled as Panerai.
When using a 24/24 or a 26/24 strap, you will need to choose a buckle which is aftermarket, or sewn in with the strap.
There are wonderful aftermarket 24mm buckle choices out there, from the cheap and almost throwaway to rather sophisticated, well made examples.
Hope this helps.
cheers
richard

If I may ask, can any sifu PM me some really good value for money sites specializing in aftermarket PAM straps?

Second question is even more far fetch, anyone knows any brick and mortar shop selling aftermarket PAM straps in Beijing? I can't really read Chinese and it's a bitch to Baidu (the Chinese version of google) for them. I would prefer to fondle them first before deciding.
Basically I'm looking for a short strap for my wife, she has really skinny wrist and it's hard to find a 110/70mm strap. Need some help here.
Many thanks guys.

I would recommend Dirk, Septimus, Paulo18, Simona, Altamarea for a start...google them up and good luck

Generally what does a Paneristi feel about Textile band/NATO/ZULU strap?
Is it against the "spirit" of PAM?
Anyone has any cool pic of PAM on a NATO strap to share?
I find the Bottega strap stunning, can anyone PM me where to get that?
Many thanks.
-
Sigh... I really hate The Great Firewall of China...
Anything with the word "blog" in the web address is inaccessible; Septimus is out.
I can't access Network54.com too, hence Paneristi site and Paolo18 is out.
Sorry, just one of my casual whining.

Not sure what you meant by the 'spirit' of PAM. NATO/Canvas straps are part of military heritage- one of which PAMs are born into. Finding the right NATO width would be the challenge - most are smaller than the 24/24 or 26/26..makes it a bit odd if you put the smaller width NATO.
In any case Panerai has an OEM Canvas green strap- the one that comes with the Mare 300. Beautiful strap esp if you pair it with the PVD/DLC PAM. Not sure the reference though- maybe you can ask the Shanghai/Beijing boutique.

No problems at all, I just thought a person of your stature being able to speak on behalf of Myristi, should be a very great honour.
I suppose you are knowledgeable on all things pam... correct me if I'm wrong... but unfortunately your replies are mostly piggy backing on some other members opinions... nothing wrong there as well.
As to your answer as to why invitation was not extended to MWF members... I do hope you are speaking for the whole Myristi community like you mentioned... because if not... ppl might get dragged into this that actually has nothing to do with it.

Bro Terence , not kecik Nafas . Cause we Risti all fashion people and like to collect junk ma , So I guess fashion watches and junk doesn't suit everyone in the forum right . So we have our own gathering Lor. It's not we don't wanna invite it's because the feedback was rather negative on the recent post . So some of Myristi wasn't that in favor of the reply . Wait wait wait...
Chris ask is it because of the recent unfavourable postings in MWF that MWF was not invited and your answer is yes, on behalf of myristi, you said that it was because of the said postings.
Now u said that you're not organizer and just got invited only ??? ???
So you're speaking for the entire myristi or is it you're just unable to let go of the previous discussion?
So in other words... confirmed facts are as such.
MWF not invited because of negative postings.
MyRisti have given you the green light to respond to Chris' enquiry which confirms the 1st sentence.
Cool... crystal clear now.

Holly cow... Didn't know my question led to another debate!!!
I really thought I over sensitive ... Didn't realise that's the truth...
If MWF thread offended Myristi n hurt the feeling of any Myristi
I wanna represent MWF to say sorry for that (before I get permission to represent)
Don't worry Myristi, all Mwf gtg still welcome Myristi and any watch lover to attend, be it at multi brand lover or single brand lover... High end or low end watches, vintage or new... Any skin Color... Wearing v neck or round neck t shirt...
I wanna take opportunity to say sorry to If there any Myrolek... ( on behalf of hobbit n endiku b4 their permission this time )
Peace !!!
We shd concentrate in watches n Let the spirit of vintage pam n other military inspired watch to die off - (it was made to carry out a mission - to attack !!!)
N get back to strap talk pls
If this lead to no way. I will lock the thread!

My latest custom made Ted Su Swiss Ammo strap on my PAM 320. Strap is made extra long to fit my 200mm wrists.
The flanking straps are the two Big Hornback alligator straps also made by Ted Su. Frikking dinosaur straps if you ask me! Still in their original protective buckle stickers.

Attended a Risti gathering just now. Even ristis in Sg read the controversial tread in mwf. Wow, hot discussion until 11pm. I think some singki risti will boycott mwf and tell others to boycott also. Not good sign!!! :Blue:
Many said the t.s Endiku must also apologise.
-
Oh now they mad? Awwwww.......... So mad until there's venting and "heated" discussions nearly till sleeping time?
Oh lord, please Ekindu do something or else their next GTG, they really have to forgo their sleeping time and go on till the wee morning hours.
Gosh, I have seen so many Omega vs Rolex, AP vs PP threads over other forums and none so "over the top" as "I don't wanna play with you anymore", "I am going to tell my friends" childish reaction as this.
It's just a watch and just like your underwear, some may think its a fashion statement to have the brand name sticking out from your pants and some may think of it just as a tool to hold ur balls. Everyone is entitled to have their opinion. It's just you, yourself who chose to be so offended about it to wanna "play boycott"

Can you show us the link where these SG ristis demand Enkidu for apology?
That is no right or wrong to defend a brand but can be more mature way to handle afrerall we are adult here..
-
Wow... I guess we all can be proud since this thread has got the attention of the singapore ristis.
And it has also made it into viapaneristi.
It has yet to make it into paneristi.com... or maybe they knew but just kept quiet since it's all about the good things there...
I have a suggestion, since the thread has garnered so much attention, wouldn't it be good if ristis can defend their brand at that thread rather than demanding childish stuff like an apology?
Even if Enkidu does apologize (which I doubt he will)... what will that make ristis? Winners? ::)
Reminds me of childhood playground scuffles... those "I don't friend u liao"...
Cmon guys... we're all adults here... if there's nothing intelligent to debate about or nothing factual to backup the claims... mind as well just stand back and let those with knowledge and information speak out...
Rather than demand for an "apology"
-
It is up to the moderators and owners of the MWF forum whether they want to be declared an anti-risti forum. Simple as that. If the ristis don't want anything to do with the MWF, mods and taikos; it's their business. Insults from the MWF is not going to help.
Some questions are so loaded, it is useless to even acknowledge or answer; like, "when did you stop beating your wife." The questioner has already made up his mind and any "discussion" just gives the troll a platform to hantam you. That the mods allowed such a thread to exist in MWF is telling.

Just to clarify your statement, I believe MWF is not an anti risti forum.
Some mods own up to 10 pams... even a critic has 2...
If ppl wanna start playing boycotting because of some opinions that are not in favour... then I welcome you to the real world.
Unless you are so loaded that you can dump loads of cash in front of you to give ppl for free... then even your fart smells nice.
But in the real world, there are always 2 sides... and there is always somebody who will disagree...
That's why we have forums or debates or whatnot...
Hell if the world population all have the same thinking and likes and dislikes, what's there to talk about when we yam cha?
Yes yes and yes... that makes for a boring world... don't you think?

The above post by sooncheng1990 is not too helpful in the sense that I am not sure if this is a real Risti resolution or just some Friday nite talk-talk and drink-drink between college mates who happened to be Ristis. I checked the other fora and it seemed "All Quiet On the Risti Front". Whatever it is, I guess I better choose my words extra carefully as I don't want this issue to be aggravated further.
It does not escape my attention that there seems to be fewer postings of PAMs and by the usual well known PAM lovers in the mwf since the debate ended more than a month ago (I think). Which is not really good for the forum since I am sure there are a lot of members who love PAMs and look at PAM pics.
Look, if my presence here really offend the ristis, then I will just stop posting here. No problem with me and it's really no real big deal.
What we had was just a debate, it should not end up in a situation where the members are split and risti GTG not being open to all members (like what I read in this thread above).
-

I don't think the mods and the owner should be dragged into this. The owner owns at least 3 PAMs, I guess the mods also own quite a few. The guy who invited me to this debate was also a mod and he owns perhaps a dozen PAMs. To me, the mods allowed the discussion because it started off as a genuine debate and discussion. What do you mean some questions are so loaded? It was a topic / proposition for the debate. And what do you mean it became a platform for troll to hantam? Did you follow the whole discussion?
-
Firstly I believe this forum is pro watches and is not pro or anti Panerai. To me personally I think it was an interesting discussion. Enkidu presence in this forum is most welcome as is anyone else. We are here to share knowledge, experience and the love for all things horological. It is great place to be to learn, share and even meet people who are of the same mindset (WIS) and even become good friends.
-
Horse continue to run
Dance continue to jump
As long as u talk about watches...
Either u pro a brand or anti another... Say it loud!
Forum is the place!
Whether u r risti or rolek ah beng... All welcome!!!
-
I followed that thread rather closely. Even posted a reply or 2, to poke holes. Yeah, I was naughty.
But my memories about the thread was that it contains a myriad of information and solid opinions from a good number of owners/knowledgeable people/sifus.
I went back to read that thread again. I think MWF should be proud. And especially Ristians too. What came out from a controversial statement (and some heated arguments) was a thread where one can learn so much about Panerai (and other watches). In fact, if anyone were to ask me where to learn more about Panerai, I wont hesitate to guide them to that thread.
When that thread was still alive, i was in fact hunting my first Panerai. Today? I am closer than ever in getting one. I am not saying that the Panerai side won the debate there. Just highlighting an example where a noobie like me can learn, freely about watches and from there on, make a telling move for my next step in watch ownership
Pick up any glossy, super duper expensive watch magazine today and all you get are photoshopped pictures and the usual `this is the best, this is a must buy' columns. Visit the usual popular watch forums and in particular the subsection for a particular brand, and you'll see the usual wrist shots, the usual `oh so nice, oh so beautiful, oh i miss this, oh this is the best' comments. I am super proud that in comparison, a MWF thread can contain so much horological nuggets.
And now, if we have really reached a stage ( I agree with some of you, we need to verify if this is true) that there are people demanding an apology, and even to the extent of individuals declaring they won't want to post here anymore, its really sad.
People wear watches. Its expected therefore to read frustrations, disappointments and sometimes even anger associated with a brand. LEts therefore move on to enjoy learning about watches and more importantly, lets move on to enjoy knowing the people owning these watches. I can't share enough how watches, MWF, etc, have brought me valuable friendships.
As the Joker once said..`Why SO serious?'

To Hobbitt + Pexus -hey, why were you guys so quick to write as though I am not posting here anymore? I only made a supposition "if my presence here realy offend the risti" and you guys started to compose an obituary for me. Don't think I actually declared I won't post here anymore...... ::) ::) did I?? We are not even sure the ristis are actually offended. Maybe they are basking in the golden spotlight now, knowing they are wearing fashion pieces, and hoping to strut down the fashion runway with Heidi Klum ogling at them. ;D ;D
To Pexus -I am really so, so, so, so, so,so.......(x1000) disappointed with you. After all my headache arguing PAM is a fashion brand, you tell me you are now ever closer to geting a PAM. Maybe I did not hantam PAM hard enough. How could you?? Ask your conscience. OK, then I won't friend you anymore. I will also tell all my friends not to friend you anymore. :mooning: :mooning: :mooning:
And you are now labelled an anti anti-risti...

Horse continue to run
Dance continue to jump
As long as u talk about watches...
Either u pro a brand or anti another... Say it loud!
Forum is the place!
Whether u r risti or rolek ah beng... All welcome!!!
Hey Chris,
What is it about horses and dancing? Why all the complicated poems? ::) ::) BTW, you are not in the Ming or Qing dynasty anymore. Maybe it's time to get a Perpetual Calendar which tells which century you are in.
I know all these are OT. Takashi Pete (a.k.a The Vigilant Mod) will be deleting these soon I am sure.........

Nice straps there bro , have you tried altamarea , he makes great straps as well
Congrats on your new shoe
Fido
Have you dealt with Altamarea before? Is the company reliable? Seems a bit pricey in Euros. Has some stuff I'd like to get - so I may try him out.
I get a lot of Ted Su stuff because it's easy to deal with him. Ships to Malaysia, takes paypal and has good communication. Of course his stuff is real quality work!

I'm looking for more exotic stuff these days. Does anyone know a good strap maker that does stingray, shark and snake skin (boa, cobra - patterned scales) straps? 24mm to 20mm lugs? Has good reliability rep and ships to Malaysia?
??? ??? ???
edit:
Has anyone done business with thewatchboys before? Are they reliable?

Horse continue to run - ???
Dance continue to jump - ???
Is a promise to Hong Kong originated from the China's Communist Party that, after the transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to China, Hong Kong's social practice, economy structure, life style shall remain the same without interuption from the mainland.
Like what Takashi has mentioned, life goes on as usual.

Now I get it.....I thought Chris was preparing for his examination in the old Chinese imperial palace hoping to become a zhuang yuan (??) with the opportunity to marry the emperor's daughter, reciting poetry swinging his head then got sucked into a time warp machine and transported to present day Malaysia.....

Dear sifus,
i've always been a lazy guy hence i only stick to the original strap that comes with the watch i bought and replaced them with OEM ones when they're tired.
i'm thinking of investing in an OEM JV Gold nubuck strap...just a few questions that i need some help with:
JV Nubuck vs Assolutamente - it seems like JV is the most expensive leather strap that Pam sells, is that correct? why is the former more expensive? softer or it's the kind of "special treatment" done to it?
does OEM JV/assolutamente comes in shorter length than other the standard 75/115 please? i've a girly wrist lah...
thanks
cheers
james

Hi James,
The JV Nubuck is an alligator strap and the assolutamente is a calf leather, hence JV is more pricey.
Both straps will turn patina as they aged.
As for shorter strap you might need to custome order with the boutique.
Hope this will help.
cheers,
ck

Hi James,
ckng515 is correct. The JV strap is nubuck alligator strap. The interesting thing is nubuck is normally associated to calf or cowhide. Nubuck is the process where the hide is buffed on the outside or top grain. The end result is similar to suede, a fine soft velvety finish. It is important to note that in suede, the hide is buffed on the inside or the flesh side.
With regards to the assolutamente, the hide is calf but it is untreated (or minimal treatment) and retains the natural finish.
Hope that helps.

Thanks guys for your help!!

I'm surprised that the Boutique sold OEM straps just like that. Did you have to order in advance?

Called the service centre first and was told to call the boutique because service centre no longer sells straps. Called the boutique, they said they've a piece in the warehouse but would take 2-3 days to for it to be delivered.

The boutique normally have stock of a couple of the more popular straps and also the longer or shorter version of the straps that comes standard with the watches in case you have larger or smaller wrist, but not all.
