What should i Do with this watch? Please advise!
« on: July 07, 2013, 09:24:54 PM »
Hi all sifus,

I am new in this forum. I needs your sincere advise on my case here.

I am a watch crazy fellow..especially Swiss Made ones.

Recently, I bought a Seiko watch out of impulse mind. It is not an expensive but clean and sharp looking Seiko, tot wanted to use it as day use watch to work place. But, once I start to wear it. I find it don't give me a good feeling like having a Swiss Made on me...

FYI, this watch is only less then a week old and it is nice piece of watch (I can't attached the photos that I want to show all) and I already feels like keeping it away..sigh.. :Blue: , I am so sakit hati when I see it lying on my table. So so so sorry to the watch:

I am having Tissot PRC100, Victorinox Alliance and rotate with occasionally Mido Ocean Star as my daily use watches.

Worse still, I just went to Mid Valley and got my self a Certina ... 8)

Sifus.. do you experienced such incident before? what should I do??? please help! ???

Thanks

Kcie2u

In my small collection I have Japanese, Swiss and German watches.
To me all of them have their strengths and weaknesses.
If you 'feel' inferior wearing a Japanese watch and superior wearing a Swiss watch then I am sorry for you.
You obviously have a less than deep understanding about the watch industry.
And on top of that the Swiss have obviously done a fantastic marketing job on you as well...
(FYI I handle d marketing/branding of a MNC)

I'm not saying the Swiss don't make good watches.. they do but not all of them are better than non-Swiss watches...

In fact those particular 'Swiss' watches that you bought are no better than some of the better Seiko models available, in my opinion..

FYI there are some non-Swiss watches that are superior to some Swiss watches and vice-versa
You just need to know the particular watch you are comparing..

By the way its good if you can learn to put up the pic of your Seiko watch... who knows, one of us in MWF may buy it cheap from you to spare you the pain of wearing it...

Dear Sifus,

Thanks for reading and the feedback.

I think i might have phase it differently with my words..sorry for misleading.

I m just simply asking for opinions whether you guys have such an experience with your sets of collections. And simple quenstion as "when this happened to u when the feeling is not with this watch, what would u do?" I am seeking some human "feeling and emotional" feedbacks and not discussing over technical and commercial feedback.

Dun get me wrong, i din mentioned that Seiko is a "lausy" watch. I have also cheap Casio, Elba, Swatch and others in my list, they are good and durable watches...

Branding and marketing helps in certain ways but it really hurts "consumer" when big money has been channeled to celebrities. I m sure u guys notice this in Seiko ads campaign (asian celebreties) hence the price shoot up tremendously over these few years.

I cannot afford a Grand Seiko per say and i am not really into the detail mechanical parts info of watches like the expert..but i just like the look of the watches. For me, i just buy what i can afford and find it worthwhile. Tht y i mentioned very sorry for my Seiko, pick it up out of impulse.

I know each of the brands have their edge and weakness. It is up to indivdual to judge and value it.

Thanks

If you had asked what would we do if we subsequently lose interest in a watch (regardless of make, model and country of origin) that we bought recently, you would have got different responses.
Most, if not all of us have experienced the above and that is why we flip watches.

As to advertising, Seiko spends far less on A&P than the other brands esp the Swiss e.g.
Rolex, Omega, etc...
Most brands spend on A&P except micro or independent brands

BTW no sifus here.. only hard core enthusiasts..

If the watch no longer sings to you, you may want to consider selling it or maybe giving it away to a love one.

I'm a curious sort. I will find way to live with the watch.

From previous experience there are some watch that I don't like because of the way it look or it was trendy. After a year or two or three or more  ::) I find myself coming back to them.

For the record I don't mean that you will love your seiko if you decide to keep it for awhile. That's a big maybe. We don't know that for sure. I see that's part of the fun in collecting.

My suggestion is why don't just keep it aside. Don't wear it for few months then come back to it. You may find your heart change again.  ;)

Hey, Tyler's back!!
Did you happen to attend the PSM event? Did not notice you in the pics.

Regarding the OP, I was just wondering why buy if you did not like it in the 1st place?
Or was it an impulse buy?
We all suffer from impulse purchases every once in awhile.
Some I sold off cheaply, some I gave to friends as gifts as they were practically brand new.
But like Tyler said, I do feel like I want them back after awhile... especially when I meet my friends that are wearing it and I go "Hey... that looks really good actually!!"... Whoops... Too late... lol
Terrenceterrence "seriously, i think buying a watch for it's secondhand value is like getting married and thinking about divorce at the back of your mind."

- Destroy your credit card, atm card etc or pass them to your grandmother for safekeeping (it usually doesn't help passing it to your wife or girlfriend because she'll end up using the card).

- stop buying watch magazines etc.

- avoid walking pass shops selling watches.

- and most importantly, quit MWF and don't ever return..

That's your answer right there! Just go with your feeling, nothing wrong with that. Don't think so much and just have fun buying, collecting and trading!

You have all the symptom of a watch addict. It's a new adventure. Enjoy hours of browsing, looking at watches at shops and annoy the hell out of your wife or girlfriend.

I regret to say that so far there is no known cure for this disease.

Welcome to the club!

As a human being, we are constantly growing & maturing, change our perspective and the way we value things, and a person taste changes rapidly too. One day something (or someone) may be hot, the next day it's gone.

Don't worry, a watch is not your soulmate, feel free to move-on. Sell the Seiko, and knowing that it'll now be with someone who appreciate it will give a better peace in mind too. One way to sell it is to participate in this forum actively, collects enough posts and sell it up here. Plenty of potential lover for your ex is in here.  ;D

As a lot of "sifus" here have noted, it appears to be an impulse purchase. Now something about the watch must have attracted you enough for you to buy it at that moment, unless you are a compulsive shopaholic who must swipe your card every time you are in a shopping centre.

If it is the former, then put it aside for awhile and come back to it later. Who knows you might like it again enough to wear it. If not, flip it. In future, do not purchase anything on the spot. If you like it enough, it will stay on your mind and you can always look for it again.

If it is the latter, then the below applies.

- Destroy your credit card, atm card etc or pass them to your grandmother for safekeeping (it usually doesn't help passing it to your wife or girlfriend because she'll end up using the card).

- stop buying watch magazines etc.

- avoid walking pass shops selling watches.

Well to answer your questions..it was not really a straight impulse purchase.

I have went/scan thru a few similar color (same model), initially i like the Black face with green hands..

I visited those outlets i can find Seiko..Pj and KL area only. Took a few shots of the watch in the same line, feel and see the watches..

Showed a few friends, end up i made up my mind to get the Seiko in White. Got some good discount too. But sad that i still dun feel right with it..sigh.. Nothing to do with the Brand and Price. It just dun feel good when i wear it.

Well, maybe i am still a BLACK face fan. out of my collection.. Seiko is the only one with White face, i got one MOP and one blue..the rest are all in Black. 8)

Yeah.. good idea. May one day this watch will give me a good feels when i see someone wearing it..
