« on: April 22, 2010, 02:45:27 PM »
Dear all,

I'm newbie, 1st time prepare to buy my 1st ROLEX in my life, may I know which AD @ KL is giving best offer?
Usually what's percentage discount they can allow? Is there any different on payment terms, zero interest installment against credit card?

Looking forward to your kind advise. Tq.

Welcome k33lin.

When buying your first rolex, of course, always buy new from the AD.
Check around town, as you find out, you can trust the AD like the Hour Glass, Woo Hing, Cortina and Watatime etc,etc....to buy your first Rolex.

Most sport model sell on list, some sell on premium. Datejust / Date / stainless steel / two tone may give some x discount. Most of the AD, I went recently, offered 0 % interest installment, up to 6-12 months depending on the cards you are holding.

A good place to start with ...of course the golden triangle...in the heart of KL city. Work your way around the AD and get the best discount (if any).

If you can hold your purchase, you always welcome to join our small gathering on/off around town to look/see on watch hunting.......who knows...you may get a better bargain??

Good luck to you on your first hunt. It always fun.......
I am almost a recovered watchaholic, but last checked shows only 70% recovered. How?

Welcome!

PM you my regular AD and hope he can do something for you... but all sport model like David mentioned hardly any discount, especially now the Sub Date will not sell at retail price or selling 0% discount...

cheers!

@David,

Thanks for your valuable reply :) Appreciated.

@Scott,

Wow! Thanks for your good recommendation. Actually I'm from Penang, I heard KL selling price is more competitive compared the only 2 AD shops @ Penang :(

I'm targeting the 14060 Submarine without date, the W00H1XX Penang quoted me RMxxxxx (no zero installment), W@t@XXXX Mid Valley offering me RMxxxxx (12 months zero installment), C0T1N@ said no stock but previous selling price was RMxxxxx

Now I'm struggling... friend advised not to buy Sub without date, he said no resale value, is this true?
If Sub with date, the price seems quite "high". Any ideas what's price for Explorer II Black?

[scott] I have removed the offered price as it is not a Rolex recommended retail selling price. Thanks.

I dont have a lolex but i would like to say take a your time to think about on which one to buy.Buy the watch that you REALLY wanted. Not because of high resale value or what.

Sub-no-date is more like classic, Only rolex that had drilled lug which which make it easier to change the bracelet into strap or NATO strap. Some people say it MAYBE going to disappear next year like what happened to the 34mm Explorer.

Rolex explorer 2 is for sure more expensive than sub date as i cant remember the price. But i know that the newer production explorer 2 come with the same movement as the GMT-2 (the pilot watch)

Any rolex is good so again choose the one that you wanted.

cheers

Ahem!. pardon me, the exp 1 is 36mm. I wanted to get one too..but short of getting a good bargain for now.

Gigi, hey, I like your style. very true indeed. Maybe you can start saving now for the holy grail??. Instead of buying some 'loose' change...eh? no?

k33 - Buy the one smiling at you. What others say is not important. Always follow your heart. Thats the basic rule.

All rolex sports retain their value well. No date is classic. Some may not like the reflective lens on the date.

Yo, I am also from Pg. Always drop by at Campbell St when ever I am back.

@GiGi, Thanks for your advise. I can't choose the one I likes due to budget, as you know the price is keep increasing, my savings always can't catch up. That's why I have looking for zero installment plan  :HammerHead:

@David, glad to know you are from Penang too :) Initially I do consider the Explorer 1 but the new 39mm should be more attractive if the selling price remains the same (could be?) My budget is about RM15k, probably I can choose the DateJust Steel, Sub without date or 36mm Explorer 1.

k33lin - gee, thats a hard choice. All mentioned are equally good. But out of the 3 pc, personally, I would opt for no date. It a classic. Datejust may loose some of its shine over the years. Exp 1 is evergreen.

The choice is yours.

Ya, very tough to decide. I can't imagine the price keep increasing likes nobody biz, my colleague bot the Sub with date @ RM12.5k on y2003, after 7 years later, the price rose to RM19.5k, sounds crazy

Mostly I will choose Sub w/out date, W@T@ quoted me @ RMxx.xk, is this reasonable?
I do consider the used Sub w/date, but I worry how to verify the watch as I totally newbie to watch.

Not sure of the current price - though, esp for sport model. They keep increasing twice? a year and I lost track of them.

If you are buying used, esp rolexes, take it to Wxx Hxxg (pg) and ask for Robxxt, the uncle is just happy to verify the rollie for a fee (no private dealing, if you don't know him well). I have no problem dealing with him.

The transaction works like this. Both parties shall go over to the shop. (with a confirm buy but no cash hand over yet). After verifications, take watch and pay cash on the spot and all done in good faith.

Like I always said. Buy the seller first. If you trust the seller 99%, then you should have no problem on the above.

good luck.

exp2 is about same price as Sub-date but maybe with better discount i guess. Love the white dial exp2. Only different compare to GMT-2 is the bezel is not rotatable and you can only get 2 timezones instead of 3 timezones like GMT-2. GMT-2 is no longer in production (maybe still some very new produce once in a while with latest series due to some left-over case/bezel still available... not too sure) and replaced by GMT-2-C which has larger case, larger crown and ceramic bezel ;)

Personally, i don't like the magnifying glass... i will rather got for (1) Sub no date (2) SeaDweller, you still can find one from the shop i PMed you (3) DeepSea SeaDweller ;)

If you don't mind have no date, Sub No Date i will recommended... the balance of the dial and the lug hole still made available even on it's latest production, for historical reason i guess.

Cheers!
scott

Scott,

We've about same taste :D I not really likes the magnify glass too!
But watch without date seems not so practical, that's why I can't make firm decision.

Any ideas on the price range of used SeaDweller?

k33lin,

Have you considered a well-kept used Rolex? There are a few bargains to be had at the moment (thanks to the aftermath of the financial crisis) and if you buy from a reputable dealer, or privately from an actual owner who has all the original paperwork, you shouldn't have any problems. I'm sure other members can suggest a few sources.

@gigi, sure, I'll coming to KL on next weekend, dare dare sapu 1 unit before I go back to Penang

@Fergus, I do consider used Submarine or Sea Dweller or Explorer II, but preferably the shop can offer zero installment  :Blue:
In fact I'm not save enough for Rolex but I don't think I should continue to wait because the price grow faster than my savings, I think I must dare dare to buy under credit terms  :Praying:

I know exactly how you feel - I just bought a house that I can barely afford, so I won't be expanding my collection for a year or two, and I should just about be able to afford a President (my dream Rolex) once I'm dead and buried.
