Dress watch under 5k
« on: May 15, 2013, 09:05:13 AM »
Hi all,

I am new here just registered in fact! I have been reading this forum with interest for quite some time.

I am in fact looking for my first watch of substancial value (for me at least). I currently own a Victonix Classic Chrono which is more of a sportier outdoors type of watch which serves its purpose well.

As I am approaching 30, I have decided that I need a dress watch, one that is suitable for the boardroom and the occasional cocktail parties. What I am looking for is as per below:

Size: 40mm

Strap: Leather strap

Complications: Non chrono but would like some sort of complications such as date, power reserve and so on (nothing too plain but not too clustered either),

Movement: Automatic or mechanical I dont mind either, I dont mind a dependable ETA movement but if it is a modified ETA or in house that would be great!

Shape: Round head only please

Origin: Swiss or German please =]

Exceptions: I do not like Tag's, Mido, Certina, Tissot

Appreciate if you experts out there could shed some light for me and provide me with some recommendations (pictures would be great!)

Thanks in advance!

For your budget, you can go for the Oris Artilier Small Second Hand

or

Oris classic Date

However, in my opinion, the one you should get is this Longines

For your budget, you might need to find a slightly used one thou.

Intro some model from the German brand Junghans that fits your budget  ;)

Meister Classic (base on ETA 2824)

Meister Handwind (base on Peseux 7001)

The infamous Maxbill Auto (base ETA 2824)

Definitely can, go to www.junghans.de for more information  ;D

The following are the MECHANICAL collection from Junghans:

1) Meister: the original DNA for them, reminiscent of their design during 1920s.
2) Max Bill: Designed by Max Bill at 1960s and this is most well known collection from Junghans

They are capable of producing in-house movement as shown the picture, their limited edition Erhard Junghans 2

Other series except Erhard are using movement derived from top grade ETA, but for the Meister Chronometer, it is using the Soprod A10.

*at this price point in the industry, most of the watches are using ETA derived movement

Hi guys!

Thanks for the massive replies and those are very nice watches! I also kena poison by Junghans but I went to see them in Bangsar and the ones I like are about the 8k range which is about out of my budget right now =[

I did however buy a watch that day! And I decided on a.... Oris PS Hunter 44mm Auto. Its with the Sellitta sw-200 base movement. I am a very big guy so 44mm looks just right on me =D

Will post up some pics when I have the time. Got a really good deal on it to! Just a scoff under 4.3k =]

And now I am already looking at my next potential upgrade. Damn you MWF forums ! Really kena poison.
