Judging by the price, I think one will not need to take Stauer too seriously. It is a watch that is totally acceptable for "impulse buy", that is a purchase made just because I like it. To me, there's nothing wrong to add a few cheap piece to the collection. Maybe use as a beater once in a while, or for a family picnic afternoon. It reminded me of Arbutus.
There are also other worthy pieces in this price range. Seiko 5 is a famous choice, it is generic, popular, and a lot of choice, ranging from dress to diver to pilot.
If you opt for something less generic, give Orient a good look. Their mechanical range is near the top of this particular price range, but their offerings come with quality and classic look.
If you want something that will last forever, regardless how bad you treat it, and you don't wear suit that often, go G-shocks.
G-shock's price range from couple hundreds to near thousand, so choose something without solar or thermometer if you want to keep it low.
Finally, if you want a watch (and a brand) that nobody will recognise, yet it fit your style, as mentioned previously, take a look at Arbutus.
Just remember, buy a watch that you like, and will enjoy wearing.
