Zenith website updated with Basel 2013 model announced.
« on: April 25, 2013, 07:02:38 AM »
Zenith website updated with the new Basel 2013 models shown in their full glory.
The website itself have been fully redesigned and it's now more user friendly and it also shows the RRP of each and every model.
A very good move considering most brands do not state their retail price anywhere on their own website.

1st are the Annual Calendar models.
The  movement is the same one fitted on the Captain Winsor Annual Calendar model but in the Montre D'Aeronef Type 20 guise.

Next up are the GMT models.
Nothing much to say.
Case size is 48mm... smaller then the behemoth original (57.5mm) but still, I am not sure how they would wear.

The Tourbillon.

Lastly and also my personal favourite... the Montre D'Aeronef Type 20 in a 40mm case size!!
Hallelujah!!
Powered by the Elite caliber 681, will retail for USD5900... A very tempting piece for me.
Gotta chk em out in person when there's a chance.

I cant help but think that the D'Aeronef Type 20 in a 40mm will look better in a 42-44mm case.
Just because of the look of the watch, i think should b bigger.

And bravo for Zenith not going crazy with that models pricing.

I suspect the 40mm's aim is the female market. (I'm not making crude jokes)

The market are flush with Big Pilots, Panerai and Offshore. While Panerai and AP did something and introduce the ladies model of the design(smaller) but there is no sign Big Pilot type watch for the ladies.

LVMH is a genius. I gotta give it to them on their marketing.

My concern is with the black dial the watch might be a bit smallish on a man wrist.

Regard
Tyler

Thats my point, for a pilot watch and the size and look of the crown?
I feel 42-44mm would be more "balanced"

No idea why the jump to 48mm for the GMT model though.

Yeah... sometimes I can just bang my head on the table figuring out why this and why that.
If it were up to me.
The Stratos will be a 42mm watch... as well as the Baby Aeronef... 42mm would be perfect.
Now, there are the 48mm GMT and Annual Calendar models, and then a 40mm time only model.
Tyler got it right... it is actually aimed at the womens market.
Look at Zenith's website.
40mm Montre D'Aeronef is listed for Ladies... and some are adorned with jewels and whatnot... sigh...
I guess Zenith must be thinking the average human wrist is 7 inches and above...

Yeah... this is one to really see it in the flesh before committing...

Read in some other forums that the 48mm wears smaller than the size would suggest.
Either way... no blind purchase for this year's release... gotta see it and feel it in the flesh 1st.

Hi, Hanz,

I am really attracted to this new 40mm pilot. I am one of those guys who find a small movement powering a very large watch ungainly. The Elite movement is not a large movement, so a 40mm watch is probably just about the max it should go. Keeping my fingers crossed. Glad to see Zenith pricing is still relatively sane....

If it's a 42mm... it will sell like hot cakes.
Nope... it's a 45.5mm...

Yeah Loo,
Glad the pricing is still sane.
If any of you guys get to see it in the flesh, remember to take as much pics as possible yeah?
Comparison pics with whatever you have on your wrist at that particular time would be excellent.
Just for sizing comparisons.
As there are plenty of ADs that carry Zenith in KL, you guys will have a better chance than me.
Delivery of the watch is expected in June of this year.
Not too far off.

why oh why can't they reduce the sub counters ever so slightly so that the counters do not overlap and also cut off the minute numerals...is it that tough ?? this would have been a superb looking watch

Would have been willing to even overlook the 'initial jumping second' of the chrono activation if the visuals had been perfect

The 6 o'clock subdial have been reduced in size.
Overlapping subdial problem does not apply to this model.
As for the butchered numerals, can't help it though... even older 40mm models and AP ROO Chrono suffers from this butchered numeral syndrome. lol

hanz is correct. there is still 'little' overlapping of the subdials, but definitely an improvement and not as glaring as in Stratos Flyback. This Flyback Rainbow definitely looks promising, problem is the boutiques are in China and Japan as far as I know. Not sure if there's one in Sg.

The triple calender look superb. Still think the tri-color is all time classic, but grey dial with single red hand work in harmony too.

De Luca should have the date window at 4 o'clock I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, as with most EP calibre-d watches of that time. Would be great if they had screw down pushers

I stood a different ground regarding screw down pusher/crown. IMO, screw down crown should be exclusively used by diver's watch, and diver's watch only.  Since diver's watch will need every single help to make it withstand as much pressure as possible, screw down crown make perfect sense, plus the robustness manifestation does a good favor to the masculine look.
On a Zenith EP, it should be a sporty dress watch, a watch both stylish and functional, young but elegant, formal yet comfortable. A watch for a self confident, forward thinking and well off duke. So a screw down crown might have no contribution in both functionality & look.
That said, there is still something I'm not satisfied with Zenith. I really hope Zenith will keep the date window at the original place. I would also greatly appreciate if they stay away from the mammoth size trend. Sadly, despite their giant leap since the new boss, recent Zenith offering still left some empty spaces, imperfection that is yet to be fulfilled.
