apart for man watch and steel band, you may want to give more description, as thus better recommendation can be given.

you may want to tell us what type of watch do you like (diver, pilot, etc), how you intent to use them/ wear them with (casual/dress up/go hiking etc), what complication (aka functions other than telling time), and maybe you like to add how big you like your watch.

also, i'm assuming you want brand new watches, if slightly used version is acceptable, your 3.7k limit will mean something else too.

thanks Bezelnut for the advise.. a normal casual watch will do.. i don't mind the functions as long as it fit the budget.. around 42mm will be good.. I was looking for Tag Heuer Formula 1 chronograph but it is above budget.. unless i go for the aquaracer series..

Yah Tissot and Seiko are value for money. What about Oris or Longines?

Personally, I like Victorinox - army theme.

Hi
For 3.7k, you could go for Longines Hydroconquest automatic or Oris Aquis Date.

I think you can take a look at Orient Star. They have many pieces that fit within your budget (actually I think all fits in your budget). I recommend the Orient Star GMT, with which you will have sapphire crystal, hacking movement, power reserve, date & 24 hour hand, and also quite a lot of spare change.  ;D

Seiko spring drive is also a good choice. The smooth sweeping second hand is undisputed.  Some model is also well within your budget.

Another brand that will fit your budget is Hamilton, opt for Jazzmaster if you like "indoor" look, and Khaki if you like "outdoor". Do mind that this brand offering are more fashion watch oriented thou. For me, the really worthy piece is their all new intra-matic 38mm, but that one is all dress watch.

If you dare to be different, do check Xetum. However you might need to search for a dealer (if any), as I know there is none near me. It does look very promising on my computer screen thou.

Of topic a little, Oris Artilier Complication is a worthy piece. It is my favorite Oris. This one blown your budget significantly, but it has a stunning sunburst dial, has a chronograph look yet not a chronograph (how cool is that) and comes with a nice moonphase.

Happy hunting and wish you all the best.  ;)

the OP want to buy for her bf and if the bf is not a WIS, all those hacking movement, power reserve, sweeping hands are useless.

none WIS will usually go for design and brand plus the OP initial target was to get a Tag F1 for her bf.

IMHO, the OP should bring along your bf to choose the watch he loved, never buy a watch on behalf of your man especially if your man is a WIS

I didn't realise the original poster is a she, my bad.

I agree with CKL1213, if your beloved one is into watches, the best way is to have a nice shopping date.

If you are planning for a surprise, I guess you may buy anything that you feel he will like. Take into account his taste (looking at the watch he already owned), recall whether he had mentioned a brand or a watch before, or linger in front of a watch shop window longer than usual, or check his browser history (ok, the last 1 is a joke, please don't hate me) ;D

Personally, I find it harder to figure out the intricacies of a G-Shock with all it's esoteric electronic functions than that of a simple three hand mechanical watch, or even a mechanical chronograph for that matter.

If the BF is a watch savvy hobbyist (aka WIS), then it is preferable albeit less romantic to take him shopping; which is going to be odd for a GF to purchase a gift for the BF like that but I am old fashioned.

If both parties are newbies, then I think it's preferable for the gift to be a surprise, in which case the GF buying the gift would have the choice of picking up something for the BF as a romantic gesture.

I would personally recommend a Certina diving watch (with metal bracelet):

Tissot too.

A surprise is always nice! My wife bought me a Victorinox watch fr NY and I always cherished the thoughtfulness although it's not the model that I like. haha. Sometimes you have to take a gamble and trust your choice. Good Luck and enjoy the moment!

For Longines, check out their heritage line. Some are just beautiful. I like the Lindbergh but that's above budget. Not sure of the exact prices but am sure there should be some within your budget. Best is to visit the watch shop yourself, fiddle with the watches and compare the prices.

I will play devil's advocate and suggest a few different brands  :Dancing_banana:

Try looking at Stowa, Damasko, Archimede or even Dievas. They make excellent watches for the money and their watches can be easily serviced by any reputable watch shop.

Hope it helps. The hunt is 90% of the fun

Depends for what purpose, ie for flashy brand, quality etc.

Best flashy brand recognition: Tag Heuer F1 Quartz. Common entry level luxury swiss watch and very recognizable. But may have to bargain/ stretch hard abit your budget.

Best quality:
Ball, Longines, Oris all make good watches for the money.

Ball Hydrocarbon series: Manly and good for big sized guys with big wrists. Fantastic Lume. "Bling bling"
Longines Hydroconquest: Very versatile, good brand perception and and flexible looks. Goes well with office attire or casual.
Oris TT1 etc: Good brand perception, also versatile looks, can be worn with anything.

All the above are reliable, accurate movements.

Just out of curiosity why RM3.7k not RM3.8k or RM3.6k? Usually a budget isn't it suppose to be a round figure?

Or you have identify one model? If so go for that I suggest
