Sea Dweller or Explorer 2 white face 216570? I am a massive fan of the Seadweller but it sits a little small on my wrist, I have an oppertunity to trade for a new Explorer with white face, the latter is less of a keeper I agree but it is nonetheless a cracking watch - What would you do?

Unless you have the wrist to carry it off, get the 216570. The SD is a Rolex I will never want.

I hear you but define tool watch, I don't work with my hands so a watch is more of a dress thing for me. I like the SD, it's a modern classic and a little different from the sub but the ExpII is singing - I'm hoping you can put me off

I'd pick the Explorer II, but one of the older variants. I find the one with the bigger hour/GMT hands hideous.

Just my own preference, of course.

Get Sea dweller

-Low profile in the sense that ppl always think about Sub date with cyclops but not sd.

I assume you are talking the classic SD 16600 and not the Deepsea Sea Dweller which is totally different beast. Anyway, cant go wrong with dwellers... I rather get that and sub no date 14060 then sub date

16600. It's practically perfect, apart from the nasty clasp. So put it on a strap and it's perfect!

IMHO the SD is a very solidly built watch, i.e. a real tool watch. I regret selling mine off in the 90's.
OTOH the latest ExplorerII appeals to me as I like the freccione GMT hand, to me a quantum improvement over the skinny hand on the older Explorer II, which I also owned and disposed after awhile (each man to his own- some hate the newer freccione hand)
Since you are not looking for a real tool watch that can take punishment, I'd take the Explorer II which comes in handy for travel as well.

If you have have big wrist SD is real cool. On the other hand if you have a small wrist Explorer is fine.

I am having this thought also between the Sub Hulk and GMT Master cause I have a small wrist but the Hulk is appealing

the Explorer mentioned by the OP was 215670 - 42mm and you think a small wrist for Explorer is fine?

For a small wrist, do also consider the extremely long clasp for the Submariner. A real let-down considering how much I like the green..

I don't hv very big wrist, around 7.25". I do like bigger case and I can wear a 44 or 45mm case without much trouble. The SD is real nice but you need to consider the bulkiest of the case (i.e. the thickness). It is thicker than the Explorer or Sub. I tried both the Explorer & SD before going for the Explorer. Knowing how clumsy I can be, the thicker case will be more prone to accidental knocking and thus I would consider the SD a scratch magnet. Finally, I chose the new Explorer II 216570 because of the upgraded size to 42mm and maxi case design similar to the new Sub.

How old is your SD ? If its over 7 or 8 years n if its a neat exchange then go 4 the explorer, but i myself would prefer the SD. regards tony

Brother have you thought of changing the clasp e.g switch with the GMT Master clasp? I have thought about it but dunno if the availability.

not really sure about changing the clasp only, but an Oyster bracelet set will cost you about 25% of your RRP.
