How to clean leather straps P.2
« on: January 27, 2013, 06:30:01 PM »
Hi there folks,
I thought I start another tread on this.
The last tread and tips given were using shampoo to brush over the straps, and layers of newspapers to soak up the moisture.

Anyone got other tips rather than the above?

Plus, very likely the above method would have dull the appearance of the leather.
How to regain the shine in the leather? Using normal show polish would do? Or what other products out there in the market that could be used and not harm the straps?

Appreciate all your opinions and suggestions here.. cheers.

depend on what type of leather, for me i would not even dare to touch on water at all

use normal leather wax will do, usually i dun really bother unless i find it too dry and started to crack

I think a splash of water on the straps will not harm the leather in anyway.
My leather strapped watches are usually dress watches, and its kept in their respective boxes. After use, I usually left them in open boxes overnight in an AC room for some "airing" to dry off any moisture before its back to the safe.
I guess this have consequences as the straps looses some of its shine.

Leather is just a treated skin
So I usually wipe with alcohol or spirit

Subsequently use a leather wax

However for suade leather I stop at the alcohol

i believe leather can be clean with damp cloth.
always apply leather protector / lotion after cleaned it.
