Good time to pick up a Zenith?
« on: January 23, 2013, 07:25:58 AM »
To all the sifus out there. Zenith has been a brand on the up lately due to a reconnection to their roots. The new CEO seems to be doing a great job in re-establishing the brand after the crazy Na-taf inspired era. Many Zenith boutiques are also opening up around the world. To my knowledge, the discount is still pretty good and the price is extremely reasonable from a Manufacture with a remarkable heritage. So...are Zenith watches the true bargain in today's watch market? Yay or nay?  :)

Zenith had a huge marketing success (enhanced worldwide brand awareness and improved consumers' perception) when they co-sponsored the Red Bull Stratos Jump on Oct 14, 2012. The record-breaking jump from the edge of space by Felix Baumgartner, wearing an all-new El Primero Stratos Flyback Striking 10th Chronograph, was shown live (I watched it through a facebook link). A great-looking watch costing more than RM20k! Zenith probably needs to continuously flog its brand to maintain its positioning.. If there's a good discount on this watch, and it appeals to you, it's a good time to pick it up. :D

Only matters if you like the watch if not then the discount is pointless.

Which model are you eyeing?

Having a hard time deciding on which model to buy. It will be from the EP line:
1) The Stratos Stiking 10th (worn by FB during the jump)
2) The Chronomaster Power Reserve Open (silver dial) or
3) The 1969 LE Striking 10th.
Headache!  ???

I considered that too but decided that it feels too much like my Speedy Pro. My wife commented that it is harder to tell my watches apart now.  :)

I have the impression that watch enthusiasts tend to collect watches with a great history.. and in this case, the El Primero worn by FB seems a good choice! ;D

Pedigree, complexity of the movement, and especially exclusivity.. these are the criterias that I would look for in a watch.
I won't want to have spent so much only to know later that every other guy also has one like mine.
The Megs, Pams, and Rolls... has in my opinion becomes a dull brand to have. Nevetheless, personal preference differs widely from one another.

I too was wondering what were Megs.  ;) Btw...thanks for the input guys.  Will most probably go for the Stratos Striking 10th.  Looks really nice in the flesh.

Anytime is a great time to get a Zenith. Some preowned pre-LVMH pieces are quite attractive.

 Cool piece there! Saw one on display at a shopping mall today. Pls PM me price also. TQTQ.

Any idea where's the best place to get a Zenith? Are brand new watches cheaper in Malaysia or Singapore? Think HK is quite cheap too.
