IWC MarkXVII -Loose crown

Hi Fellow Forumers,

Need your to seek your advice and comments.
My less than 6-month old IWC Pilot Mark XVII (bought from KLCC authorized dealer) has a loosen/broken crown.

The crown went loose when I was adjusting the date & time.
I seldom wear the watch, so I was moving the crown. 1st level for date, and 2nd level for time (or vice versa).

I did not expect such flimsy crown for an IWC watch.

Do you think I can sent this watch back to IWC boutique or Richemont for warranty claims?
I still of course have the warranty card and papers.

Has anyone ever experienced a loose crown before on your watch (above RM10K)?
Or is IWC getting less durable/ QC?

My ex Ball Fireman suffered the same fate before.

I believe this is an isolated case. Nevertheless, send it back to the AD.

Ouch... Mark XVII is a pretty new watch.
I would send it back to the AD or Boutique where it got it from and make sure you talk to someone that can actually do something.
Do keep us posted on the updates.
It's a good experience to find out what the after sales service of certain brands is like.

Few years back my colleague had the same problem with the IWC Portuguese chrono pusher. It came right off.

It's nice of IWC for provide a home forum for owners to highlight whatever problems that they have.
At least it is in the open.
Rather than to sweep the problems under the carpet.

Whichever route you take it will be a frustrating process. It may do you some good if you send a nasty e-mail or just post your complaint in IWC's forum somewhere to hammer in your message. No need to give face anymore. Say something like....IWC watches are not engineered for men, they are engineered for pansies...

Engineered my a** ..cobbled together is more like it...

btw if someone wants to flame me.. I have a XVI... but that was 'engineered for men'

of course you should send it in..then i suggest you sell away the watch.

I am going to say just send the watch to a reputable local watch maker.
It should be an easy 10 minute fix.
All mechanical things fail sooner or later.
I am sure this is just a lemon that unfortunately got to you.

Not sure if that's advisable. The case back may need to be opened so that the crown stem can be held whilst the crown is being screwed back in. It may also  involve removing the stem entirely, screwing in the crown and affixing the crown + stem back into the movement. Or some parts (crown or stem) may be worn/defective and needs replacement. If a third party watchmaker does it, his warranty from IWC may be voided.

In my younger brusque and rushed days, I've tried to do both (screwing back without opening the case back and opening up the caseback to remove the stem completely first)
what you say is 100% correct..
The caseback has to be opened up, stem removed and crown screwed back tight enough first..
Since it's under warranty, why let a 3rd party open it up, risk any collateral damage and voiding the warranty..the price you pay for your IWC includes after sales service..

I remember reading about IWC watches having this problem some months ago. Just did a google search on the words - iwc loose crown - and lo and behold, quite a few similar complaints. But then again, I'm not sure if it is the same for other brands as well ...

That must be a frustating experience, especially since the watch is still new.
If it happen to me, I would send it back to the authorized dealer / service centre to fix since its still under warranty.
Just the hassle of you bringing the watch to the service centre and waiting for them to fix it during office hours.

of course you should send it in..then i suggest you sell away the watch.

I also have another IWC porto chrono. Maybe i should sell off my IWC watches and changed to JLC...

I have seemed another AP suffered same facts recently but much worst. Not a big issue. Just send it back to them and they will fix it since its still under warranty.

Watch is very delicate. I also know there is a PP nautilus has had an accuracy issue until the boutique has to take it back.

This is frustrating. But part and parcel of owning a delicate art. thats how i see it, regardless of brand.

Erin8817, my $0.02 is don't expect the boutique to roll out the red carpet especially if you didn't get the watch from them. My buddy dropped off his watch from an AD for servicing at the boutique in Pavillion. One of the sales person gave him attitude and told him to go directly to Richemont in Menara Standard Chartered. Sani came in and solved it for us eventually, but it was an experience that would make me think twice about buying the brand.
