1. The history / background of paneristi n myristi

Are you asking about the forum or the people?

2. How u qualify urself as risti

Dude this I don't even know  :o. I mean is there a qualifying process? I sure didn't go through one.  ;D Maybe I'm not a risti  :-\

3. What is risti all about - its a way of life with panerai watches or you just a group of people love this panerai brand...

This is hard. Is it almost like persuading a foreigner to eat durian after he vomited twice just by the smelling only. To them it smell horrible and look very slimey and disgusting. To us Malaysian we know better but good luck trying to get the guy to eat.  :D

Perhaps I can share my experience. I never really see myself or label myself as a risti but I did manage to attend a few risti GTG and I got treated rather well by the risti.

Initially Panerai to meis an oversize overprice watch. I just can't see what's the deal is about this watch. Until I read upon some of the history and some of the rather heroic stories. I started to get into it. I don't like how the brand handle the marketing I don't even agree on most of the direction the company takes but hey I don't run the company so ... I shut up.

When I started I wanted a panerai that look less or preferably look nothing like a panerai. I pick the PreV Mare Nostrum, which I see as a good value PreV (still expansive but not crazy yet) Then I slowly added  the Bomba and the 36.

When I was invited to some of the GTG I got scared. I was picturing fanatics, bother line psycho pamhead running on kill mode. Destroy and depend at all cost if there is ever a word of unpanerai. I reject a few but in the end I attended one because of a warm welcome by a fellow MWF member.

The experience is great. A little unusual compare to my other GTG but this group of so call risti are bunch of friendly guys who love watches. It might surprise you that most risti are not mono brand watch lover. My general feeling is, the risti is a group of very active social community. A very active social community means we will see some very close knit members(buddies). That's all.

Now not all watch lover or collector comes to like big watches. Some even resent it "passionately" Guess what? If someone come to you and trash you, you will be sure your buddies will show up to teach that guy a lesson. It's human nature. It's not common or even rare in most brand (maybe to a certain degree some brand like Rolex, Omega, Heuer, do) I don't see what's the big deal?  ???

However modern society loves to ridicule stereotype. What's a better target than the bunch of misfit who love oversize watches. It really takes to worst out of people. It's an event to witness the stoning of man who are different. It sicken me. Both the naysayer and those who defend it. It's a damn monkey show stage by a cynic. I don't understand what's that got to do with a forum about we come to share the passion of watches.

When you injured an animal, you created a beast with hatred. Guess what will happen next time it see you.

I think respect for others is a basic form of human cutesy so I keep an open mind when it comes to subject I dislike or even well ... hate is a strong word  ::) I feel I don't know all there's to know so I might as well keep the mind of a student.

I learned that when a newbie join a risti GTG, he will be greet warmly. He will be given advice about his choice of watches.
I also learned after a few GTG some very lasting true friendship are born.
I too learned that this kind of friendship get extended to another newbie who come join the GTG.

In the end the watches are what brought us together but it's the friendship that keep it going.

I guess in the paneristi community we  will find all sort of collector, high end, low end, 2 watch person, 20 watch and still going, pvd only, no pvd at all, patina lover, but all are kindred spirit. In time this community flourish and become what it's now. It has a unique culture and while many find solitude in it others find it as a disturbing cult like freaks.

I don't pretend I know it well enough to judge but I do find some of the GTG fun and I get to meet interesting people who share the same passion. Hate to admit it but it's true, I find the people are more genuine in a risti GTG compares to other.

Is like durian, very hard to explain. Come see it yourself. No nid to own a panerai watch as an entry ticket.

Regards
Tyler

Tyler,

The overall tone of your post feels like you are defending the rabid defense of the brand by some owners. Says a lot about what you think of them doesn't it?

Chill.. it's just a watch!

I believe bro Tyler is just stating it as it is. The love for panerai is what is driving the risti on. Somehow I personally feel that either we learn to accept that fact or else just don't comment on it. Not being a risti, I feel that their love of watches is on a much higher level than most people. The term WIS in my opinion is coined for them. Not many people are WIS. We may only be interested in watches but I highly doubt any here are in love with them. The risti truly love their watches. As the saying goes, " love is blind". So i feel that we let the risti express their view and not be so critical of them. It is what it is.

If you own a Rolex does that make you a Rolexti? An IWC a IWCti? A Seiko and ur Seiko..TI..c (psychotic) ? haha

I own a Panerai but I don't feel like a Risti. I just own a Panerai. I love my watch. To me it doesn't matter if other ppl hate it or not. It's my watch, on my wrist and if I like it, I don't really take note of what other people say. A Panerai is not for everyone. It's either you love it or you hate it. Just like skinny jeans ;)

It's just human nature I guess.

And it's quite a shame to see all the arguments and "boycotting" over a watch to be honest.

Good call, Kong. I does sound a little bit intense and I sent the message across. OK let me to this start again.

Round 2
The panerai people aka risti are a group of people who come to share the passion of these odd but charming in a way watches. A passion that not commonly share by others. Most people find these oversize watch lack fitness and horological value. It didn't help when some of them sell at exuberant price.

When the group meet and share about their watches and experience. There's a sense of belonging because how everyone understand what it's all about so some become very close friends.

Now when it become a large community it's easy to give others the impression that it's a cult. This is when all the problems start LOL. It's just a downward spiral from there.

I'm chill. I don't belong to this type of risti but I just wanna let you all know why the risti react in such a way. Risti don't breath, eat or worship the brand but are perceive that they do.

Hope I don't make the matters, worse.

Well, in all fairness, some big bike owners are like that as well. Here's hoping some of them will come in and share the passion instead of retaliation.

I don't quite agree that you "either love it or hate it". There is still middle-ground where some are interested in it and have questions. Many "why.." posts end up with the person asking getting bashed left, right and center. I for one do think they're very good for aging eyesight like mine.

good morning (i know it is half past 2 noon)  :Laughing_on_floor:

i have not brush my teeth or wash my face and yet the first thing i did is to check out new postings on mwf... am i obsessed with mwf? i don't think so. however, i am sure when i meet people from this forum who have done this before i'll naturally form a kindred spirit with them.

so i believe when people of same nature flock together they form some level of camaraderie.

it took me a long while to acquire my first panerai.

initially, only luminor appeal to me.

but things changed when i put on a radiomir for the first time... i went nuts!!! ohhh boyyy.

i spent the entire day trying to come up with the best excuses to convince my wife and get her approval. i even wrote down answers for her standard rebuttal and so on.

under normal circumstances it would not be so tough to get her approval but i have just bought a speedo, monaco and deposit for the project watch in a space of 2 weeks.

when she gave me the green light you cannot imagine how happy i was... maybe you can.

i have never join any panerai gtg but i have met quite a number of people who owned panerai and they are all good peeps.

i am aware the panerai i've acquired have no minute markers but to me it is not important because when i set up appointments i don't arrange it at 2.32 or 2.33 or 2.34pm. it would be 2 or 2.30pm. so panerai without minute markers work for me.

as for without the seconds hand, it is no big deal either cos i don't wear the same watch everyday.

if i need an accurate time keeping to the minute i'll refer to my mobile phone.

for my next acquisition, i intend to get pam114 and also a blue and green straps for it  :Dancing_banana: :Dancing_banana: :Dancing_banana:  :Laughing_on_floor: :Laughing_on_floor: :Laughing_on_floor:

after all, just because in the past volkswagen was a centerpiece of nazi propaganda that i should stop myself from admiring their cars. regardless of negative vibes from a group of people i'd still like panerai watches.

1. The history / background of paneristi n myristi
2. How u qualify urself as risti
3. What is risti all about - its a way of life with panerai watches or you just a group of people love this panerai brand...

I have been trying to find out more on MyRisti but to no avail. Is there a dedicated forum for MyRisti? Paneristi, here Chris u want to find out on P.com or definition of what a Paneristi means? I guess it is the latter.

I ain't no Risti but what it means if I may try to define it, here it goes. Paneristi is a term or definition coined by a common group of people or a community who shares the same strong passion for the Panerai watches which started with just the watches and over time or after 12 years, it has evolved into something greater than watches, it now encompasses deep and strong friendships, the ability to be charitable, to help each other, brotherhood so to speak.

When we talk about Paneristi I believe we cannot talk about only one individual but it had to be a community. This can only be formed through common goals for the love of the brand Panerai and goes beyond its watches. Panerai apparatus, tools and equipments also come into collectability and are of interest.

Anyways the only person who can define that way of life of a Paneristi is the Paneristi. Maybe MyRisti will have a better idea.

MWF has been my daily way of life now. I log in everyday. PuristPro is another site
I frequent but I am more active here now. Maybe we are more localized. So if all of us start defining the way of life for MWF, reach a common goal, share the same passion for a particular brand (I guess we are multi brands lovers), we will become MWFisti? LOL..

Cheers.

Ask their marketing dept to fabricate a simple story history. Make it simple, repeat it often, ppl will believe. ;)

as for the paneristi...

"Why Paneristi?

A while ago on the TimeZone bulletin board the question was raised of "what should Panerai enthusiasts be called?". The initial suggestion was that "The Panerai Brotherhood" sounded fairly apt, but to a lot of people this name brought forth images of spooky guys in white cloaks.

Hans Zbinden then suggested that since Ferrari enthusiasts in Italy were called "Ferraristi", why not "Paneristi"? After this the name stuck in my head, and the result is now this web site."   -p.com-

My first real substantial purchase was a Panerai and as the usual newbie, I would throng and hang out in p.com to ask questions, opinions and ogle at the photos.

When the 312 came out and I said I was not impressed with the p.3000 calibre due to the non quickset date, quality to price ratio, and being a "ground up new calibre", they should have gave something better. Come on, I have played with some example at the AD that start rolling over date at 2230.

I was then duly put "in to my place" and told that if I wanted quickset date, I should go to Rolex. So I took their advice and never looked back.

My conclusion is that, if you are not enthusiastic nor liking any of their "wonderful god given" products, you are automatically labeled as anti-Pam and the enemy that does not get the "brotherhood"

Also their business attitude of "you caught me, so now what" really puts me off. The whole boutique direction is BS, you need to beg and beg to get any specific models but it seems like grey dealers always get multiple copies to sell every time.

Anyone remembers the SG AD manager ran off with some indo grey dealer's deposit and "kopi duit"? This whole way of doing business is very much open to abuse.

This whole way of doing business is very much open to abuse.

bro, paneristi.com is a forum for people who really really love pam watches. If you go there and complan, ofcourse you will kena cold shouldered. why go there in the 1st place when you did not buy that pam312? wanna compplan about Panerai you can complain in mwf lah... :Laughing_on_floor: so many anti-ristis in thios forum.... :HammerHead:  :Laughing_on_floor: :Laughing_on_floor: :Laughing_on_floor:

Meh... No anti Pam's here.. Just anti some ppl like..... ::)..ahem...ahem

Not being enthusiastic about the brand is akin to blasphemy and heresy. Panerai Inquisition mar over there....

I did not go there and complain.. I was just stating my opinion on the new p.3000 calibre when I debuted. At that price tag and as a "ground up" new movement.. They could have done better. Apparently if they come out with a papier mâché watch in the future... They would still sing and compose hymns about it.
