Which watch brand has got the strongest following?
« on: November 08, 2012, 05:53:55 PM »
To define my question here. Following here means deep loyalty, strong emotional attachment to that brand, strong camaraderie among Forum members. Where an innocent question asked is being responded with strong defense, censorship, brand loyalty and as if the brand will go haywire because one question posted and considered by members to be tarnishing. What a load of b.s. if u ask me. A brand which is able to transform its loyal customers and wearers to be so emotionally attached like a father protecting his child is considered excellent?

These are just my opinions.
You know why sometimes ppl like to poke fun at Ristis?
It's like taunting or picking on a kid that you know will throw a tantrum and then run and tells his mom.
Now I dare you to say you guys here have never done it...
I have... at the receiving end... hahaha
But why do it? Maybe ppl just wanna see how far it goes.
It's funny when they can say "What's a few insults thrown between friends?" when you're a fellow Ristian. It could be fine.
When you're not... then brace yourselves for the repercussions...
Anything that comes out will be read the wrong way, interpreted wrongly, taken out of context and so on...
I have had nasty exchanges with some Ristis and then we exchanged number via pm and ended up chatting on whatsapp.

Hanz I wanted to agree with you until the calling of brotherhood is no longer exemplified there earlier when I read a post about Panerai boutique practices. Why I said this is the was another forum member knowing the poster's identity and he tried to be a hero by revealing his or her identity and calling that person a troll? Now tell me, is this gentlemanly? I would say NO. Is this what brotherhood is all about? NO. Is this how u put another person down so that you can feel more "belonged" to that Paneristi club? NO. I have just witnessed a lot of self-glorification over at Paneristi, heroism in something very fake, pretentious, and honestly I am so disappointed when I see a brother revealing another brother's identity and even thought it is definitely not a true reflection of his identity, still he went ahead so as to get a few compliments for being the guardian, passionate true "risti", that's a load of bull. I have been lurking there for moons and all I see is a bunch self-glorifying so called Panerai torch bearers. You can enter but you have to be very careful with your choice of words and opinions. You can only compliment the almighty and u must not say or point out problems, weaknesses or discuss loose screws, bad workmanship, unfinished movements, or joke about little things of Panerai, or question true integrity of the people there because you will be removed, deleted, marked with a big X or if they know where u live, they will throw red paint at your house, burn your car, and u will lose all your friends you have built through that little community at Paneristi.com whom have have for the past 12 years afraid to admit there are other better brands out there because of the fear of being labeled betrayal by their community. And if you do that, you have to say sorry a thousand times and show fantastic wristshots of every Panerai model out there and tell all your friends even though their Panerai models suck, you must pretend to like them. Call the ugliest the most beautiful. So very uncool if you ask me. So very unfriendly. Too protective and too out of this world. Crazy and slightly insane. I will make sure if we ever get an OP boutique here, the service and knowledge of the sales personnel better be good, if not I will complain over at Paneristi.com OR wait a minute, should I even pose another question about whether or not certain models are marked up 10 times and cost a car to attain and when I put on the wrist, I belong to the community. That be fun. I will sure be deleted. And wait I might be labeled as a troll!!!! Or a brother may eventually find out my identity from MWF and call me a troll and i will be so ashamed and embarrassed for the fact he glorified himself through the self proclaimed "brotherhood". So laughable man.  Screw that. That's bullshit and I wish Paneristi.com all the best. I will continue to lurk there and you guys pls remember, pray everyday to the almighty.

Hanz,

There's a reason I nvr post in that forum. Way too many over sensitive people over there. Can't blame them though, they are the usual target for those who want to make fun of risti.

Sometimes I think the identity of risti itself carry some burden when you are not among friends. I myself never pay too much attention to that, however I do have many genuine watch loving friends that are risti.

In the end a label is just a label, a watch is a just a watch. Memories and experience are what's important. If you ever find your way to KL leave me a message. Let's meet to talk and share about watches.

Regards
Tyler

does Swatch qualifies ? I used to have around 8-10 Swatch watches, some LE, some for daily use.
my other bet is on TAG.
and of course the fatest increasing fanbase is PAM.

@Kenny

I did not know that my little "episode" there was known by anyone here.
And to think that I was being labelled a "Troll" by a paneristi that I have respect for... a fellow Malaysian.
Well... life goes on.
I have already shared my experiences on this post here.

http://watchionable.blogspot.com/2012/11/pre-judging-watches.html

And Kenny, please please choose your words carefully, you never know when someone will quote you out of context and then call you a troll... all to score a few porkie points with the gods there.
And to think I refer him as the "resident  expert" on pams...  ::)

@Tyler

Tyler.... now as for you....
I have heard so much about you...
Your reputation precedes you...
And dun worry... I have only heard good things...  ;D
A treasure trove of knowledge you are.
Yup, I hope we can meet one day in the future and share a couple of drinks while I prepare my to absorb as much knowledge as you're willing to share.

And for those who PMed me asking me to retaliate over at P.com, post my reasons, whole threads or whatnot.
I am sorry... I have decided to let it go, and I have been banned anyway. So that's that.
But thanks. Moral, spiritual support is better than no support.

"Teeeacher you see, they always like to make fun of me. Open new tread also want kena me"...said little Pamela to her class teacher.

Little did Pamela realise that her continued cries and pleas for the remaining of her school years will fall into deaf ears, both by her teachers and classmates.

I think in that sense, there is a need to break down the original question.

To define my question here. Following here means deep loyalty, strong emotional attachment to that brand, strong camaraderie among Forum members.

This I would say Rolex.

Where an innocent question asked is being responded with strong defense, censorship, brand loyalty and as if the brand will go haywire because one question posted and considered by members to be tarnishing.

This has got to be Panerai.

Now if based on sales? Not monetary value but units.
I think maybe Seiko?
Since god knows how many watches they produce a year and they cater to all market segments.

As for G-shock, there are even specific magazines for them.
Pretty large following too.

i've a lot of respect for many members here because they're knowledgable, helpful and humble. I've the opportunity to have met 6 people so far and they're fantastic folks...

i don't feel that i belong to any particular watch brand community, have to defend/fight in arms to prove a point. i can only say that i belong to a general watch community that's dedicated to possess a true horological spirit - to share and spread the horology passion (poision some say) not "horrology". "Brotherhood" to me is bollocks - if you ask for money to repair your favourite watch or to buy the latest models, i wonder how many brothers will lend you the money?

But if a point has to be made to maintain the integrity of a forum then i won't hesitate to offer my views whether or not it offends any imbeciles or nincompoops. It's not just the responsibility of the mods but also the members

From my opinion, i think Seiko has strongest following although the community may not be as vocal compared to others.

Maybe diversity is the key.
Someone that has 5 watches of 5 different brands and another with 5 watches of the same brand, naturally the single brand guy will be more overprotective of the brand of his choice.
I have always maintained that it's better to be a watch fan then a watch brand fan...
The enjoyment is more diverse and the experience more complete.
Nothing pretentious, you like watches? Come... whatever your choice of watches may be... there is always a reason behind it... it would be good to listen to some experiences.

Just brand in general. No specific range. I was just amazed at how a person can be chased away, silenced and censored by very defensive forum members. Go to Paneristi.com and read one thread. Just type Hanz. I was a bit turned off the response received over the heavenly side.
