What was your first dream watch?
« on: October 25, 2012, 05:53:58 PM »
I had to dream realistically. It was back in 1998, I purchased this from Woo Hing. If not mistaken they had a shop in Jaya Supermarket, Section 14, PJ. The building is now gone making way for new developments. 14 years now, this watch is still ticking.

It has gone through battery changes. The tritium completely deteriorated from the hands. It evaporated and I had to send to an old uncle to clean the inside of the mineral glass. It was Tag first Formula One watch if I am correct. Endorsed by the late Legendary Ayrton Senna. There used to be printed ads of this watch with him as the ambassador.

This watch has gotten a teeny bit too small for the wrist. It sits in the drawer sadly most of the time. My only Tag. I did sell a silver dial Tag 2000 series once about 7 years ago. I wore this Tag with pride then. Like the big white logo of Tag Heuer in a shield / emblem printed on the dial.

Hope to see your first dream watch. With a little story behind it would be nice. Cheers. I used to wear a Swatch before this dream watch.

My dream watches were a Tag and Explorer 2. Surprisingly, I do want them when I can afford them now. Probably, Explorer 2. That time I would really "die" for a Tag is not for its price tag but now I am almost certain I don't want a Tag.

I like Tag Carrera the classic looking ones. Especially the chronographs. The modern ones too bold and avant garde.

Man i still remember my high school or college days where the Tag 2000 was like THE Tag to get.
I ended up with a 4000 series as a college present instead.

But still kicking myself in not getting a mechanical version though.

This is weird cos everybody's dream watch was a Tag. Amazing how powerful Tag's branding strategy was.

partly also becoz rolex was beyond reach. if i ate white bread and drink plain water, I can buy a quartz tag with my 3 months salary. i didn't find how much an exp2 would cost then becoz i didn't find out. i hv myself to blame becoz i kept telling myself i can't afford it.

yea in terms of advertising and marketing such as endorsements i think Tag has done it quite well that's why ppl usually start with Tag but eventually move up to finer watches depending on how much they're willing to invest

My 1st dream watch was a Tag. I bought a Kirium and I wore regularly for 9 years until I bought my GMT II. Now, I wear the Tag once every couple of months.

Well on the topic of Tag, my dream piece would still be the 6000 series which Senna had actual input on.
Then there is the ACTUAL one that he wore.
And then there was the ad with him and the basic model F1 series wayyy before.

Yes i am a fanboy. :P

1st up the only model which he had input when he was still alive.

Now this one he actually wore and certified by Tag. Not a real looker but i think for his fan is collectable.

Now the ad with him on it.

Tags sell well here in Malaysia as mentioned by someone, its all about marketing. For a company that do not make most of its watch parts, they have been succesful.Thing is the yanks do not think much of tags and used ones go cheap over there

I guess the interest in horology here in this country only picked up very recently say after year 2000? I am just guessing and anything prior is all Tag Heuer only. Yes? No? I only got interested in 2003.

i guess, my dream watch was Swatch Chrono and TAG was heavily marketed back then towards youngsters. other brands attract older successful people. (+30s)

Hi, Meor,
I guess you meant the Ebel 1911 dress watch.  Yes, really loved those in the 1990's but just started my career so did not have enough spare cash to get one those days. My dream watch those days? The Omega Speedmaster Professional.

mine was a seiko kinetic auto relay , it was the 1st auto relay watch fr seiko that I was so fascinated by the power reserve and auto time adjustment when u 'reactivate' the watch back. Took me almost a year to consider and almost all my bonus $$ that time to get it . watch is still with me till today almost 15 yrs later. Only send in once for servicing to replace the kinetic battery.
