Corum Admirals Cup + Watchwinder
« on: October 16, 2012, 06:54:38 PM »
Hi folks. Need some assistance with my Corum as it is "sick" :-[

I have a less than 1 year old Corum Admiral's Cup 44 and have worn it consistently since getting it (at least 3 days a week). However, I have not worn it at all for the past week and left it in my watch winder (because .... of a new wife). When I had a look at it this morning, the seconds hand had stopped moving even though the watch winder was turning!

What could be the problem? Could it be that it is too heavy for the watch winder (i.e. watch winder does not wind the watch)? Or is it is not meant to be put into a watch winder? Or is the watch winder is supposed to go in one particular direction? Or at particular RPM? Or could it be a problem with the watch itself?  :'(

Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would consult the manual but arghhh ... I have misplaced it.  :HammerHead:

Thanks in advance.

As mentioned, handwind the watch. If the watch ticks, change the winding direction of watch winder (some rotors are uni-directional).

Thanks for highlighting the possibility . Have just sent a query to the manufacturer of the watch winder to inquire whether it has magnetic shielding. To be frank, never knew that a watch winder (the cheaper end) could end up magnetizing a watch!

BTW, how would one de-magnetize a watch?

when a watch is magnetized, it runs much faster like 30mins onwards a day or maybe on an odd case it totally stop which i doubt. you didn't let us know whether your watch start running after the manual winding. if it is indeed magnetized try putting the watch touching an old TV screen n switch on tv . If there is a degauss button , press on. if all these don't work sent back your watch to the SC  since its under warranty. regards tony.

Watch started running after manually winding it and is still keeping time.  I confirmed with the manufacturer (Boxy) that their winders would not magnetize the watch being wound. So am planning to use put the watch winder into use again and see whether the problem repeats itself.

Thanks for the suggestion as to using an old tv with a CRT as a demagnetizer. However, they are becoming increasingly rare these days! So, if the problem persists, it is off to the SC as per your suggestion.

Thanks again
