JeanRichard - Worthy Timepieces?
« on: August 06, 2012, 12:45:57 PM »
Just need to discuss on this watch brand that seldom got the attention.

The design and complications looks interesting. And the in-house movement should get some appreciation in term of its effort to develop its watches from scratch...

Apart from that, the price offered is quite low too(especially in the preowned market).

Anybody here wants to share his/her experience with this brand?

Jean richards is under the flagship of  GP. The prices of Jr watches are much cheaper than gp although it uses  gp movements . Earlier jr models uses eta, which is one of the most reliable movements in the industry. That makes JR watches one of the most value 4 money piece.... tony

However tasty it is, any watches with massive discount should buy with purpose / caution.

Been a fan ever since their TV screen series
Current designs are still ok for me
If prices are good why not?

Same opinion. When they can sell at 50% discount, it means even themselves are not confident with its value. I can see with ad discount of 10-30%, but this is too much. If im not wrong the discount go up to 70% on selected models at ashford. Which is sad, think about the people who buy the same watch with full price.

Off course, its still a good buy, its beautifully design, sub brand of GP, ambassador of Arsenal (im a gunners)... Buy with a purpose.

good quality watches
good design core
trouble being GP is going a different direction hence the massive price drop
thus..even more worthwhile with the up to 80% discount on jomashop

To be honest, i do have some mild craze over their Terrascope model. It does look impeccable for my taste. Have yet to hold one in my hand. So, won't be able to share nor judge much.

The only thing deterring me is their price which i think is on the overprice side. Perhaps it will change if i have a hold of one.

I have a JR Aquascope - in terms of case construction & finishing, it is absolutely *top notch* and better than average at their list price, let alone at sale price.   Their deployant puts those on my more expensive watches to shame, and their rubber straps are also very nice (check out the blue rubbergator).

The brand lacks the same fame as its bigger brother, GP, and they have been clearing out their older models of late even in the US - apparently, they are going to do down a different path in terms of strategy.    So if that stuff matters to you, avoid.

But from a construction/quality/fit/finish point of view, they are a very under-rated brand, and at 50% off, they represent absolutely *fantastic* value.

ya, i love their Aqua and Terrascope, with the discount, it look like a steal, while im not digging it, im pretty sure its a good deal for wear.

As for the different path / strategy, i have seen more than 1 person mentioned about it, may i know what is the strategy? They are going hi or lo? Or cutting down the brand?

Definitely not cutting down the brand - I forget exactly, there was a long discussion on WUS on this:  getting out of the in-house movement for sure (that bit i remember for sure) and either changing their models or perhaps going more affordable (or maybe i am confusing that with Tag, which is certainly trying to move away from the high-end and targeting the youth).

There are some pretty cool diagrams online exploding the JR case - worth checking out.    Their brand hasnt really been successful in a very competitive price range ($2000-3000), but that isnt a failing of the product quality.
