How check if your Automatic Watch is Magnetized.

My sub was running fast these few days and I suspected it is been magnetized. True enuf I put my sub near the compass as shown in the video and the needle did moved a significant angular distance. My the other watch, which was running fast, moved the compass needle by a significant distance. Then come to my 3rd watch, the needle moved a little. My suspect is my watches were magnetized by these cheap china made ear pieces i kept in my drawer. So be careful.

The next question is where do I send to demagnetize them. Any advice?

Lam place can do, remember he has a demagnectise device there!! Maybe can bring to him otherwise walk up to RSC at menara Dior, hopefully they can fix it without leaving your watch there..

An update

I sent my watches to a local watch technician to demagnetize. My sub now running +2s daily but my seamaster daily rate does not improve. But the compass needle does not deviate as much as last time when I held my compass close to the watches.

Is is possible that the difference in performance is due to the fact that the Sub is a certified chronometer?  :)

Danny u could be right. Sub is a better and newer movement than my vintage seamaster. Magnetism is 1 of many factors Tat affect a watch accuracy. Probably, inheretly, the seamaster variation is +25/-15s like seiko 5. So +12s daily rate is within specs

i once own the same model (Seamster 300) before and it was running +5 sec/day consistently for 3 months (i was too free to check on it while i was in UK  :D)... not sure is your still mag but i guess it can still be regulated to get better rate...

1st test - put it at same position to test the accuracy ! if it is consistently gaining same faster time.... or everyday +12s at same position!
              congratulations - your watch is ok ! u can ask a watch maker to adjust it for you!

if your watch some time fast some time slow at same position ! then try other position ! if same problem then i believe u need to change some parts...
the hair spring(old hair spring is not as consistent as modern, its magnetic, it can be broke n oxidize over the yrs) , the barrel spring (aged barrel can cause different force....)....... etc
so a complete service is best solution! mean u clean all parts, oil properly.... changed broke parts!

An update.

After 2 weeks or so, my sub deviates 2s/day which is consistent and tat is very good. OTH, my Seamaster varies between 13~14s/day (some days are more) when I keep it crown down every night (not wearing it either). I suppose tat is good too because it can be easily rectified.
