Seiko GLT
« on: July 06, 2012, 03:38:44 PM »
I was walking around at one of my usual haunt and I will normally drop by the Seiko Boutique. They have a new display and these were the watches on display. I have heard of them before but have never seen them up close and personal. Sadly the SA was away for lunch so I could not 'molest' the watches. I have to say that the design is pretty radical and these watches don't come cheap. The cheapest was about NTD 165,000. That is about RM16,500 if we take the exchange rate as 1 to 10.

Seiko G.L.T. watches.

Of course I still like this watch...

The GLTs are not easy to digest regardless of pricing.

Even for the GS, I do like their designs very much, would agree they are of superb quality when compared to Rolex, Omega, etc. Yet there is the barrier for me.

I always ask myself can I really ignore the fact that its a Seiko and having to pay more than RM15k... I cant just yet see myself doing that. Strictly for those who have achieved horological enlightment, only then perhaps they can see pass the branding/marketing/hype/trend/etc and buy watches for its true worth.

But would I like to molest the GLT? free and no charge....of course....just to learn and open the mind and eyes a little bit more to try and understand what others see that I do not see.

thanks for sharing...and do share more pix when you get to play with them next time

If I'm not wrong the DNA of these Seikos is the Seiko Galante.. perhaps they brand it outside Japan as GLT but in Japan market these are Galante…
Pricing and design DNA is similar to Galante which costs abt USD 7,000 onwards. I saw some at Wako in  Tokyo (Wako is a very high end dept store owned by Seiko selling upmarket stuff not only watches)

I love GS and have 3 of their Master Shop models, each a different DNA & design.
Don't really fancy the other GS models DNA (except the Snowflake) and the Galante/GLT's are not my cup of tea either.
The GS HiBeat movements are my next target but the current design is not up to my expectation yet.

Personal taste and preferences evolve over years, hopefully not 1 full circle otherwise it means we haven't learnt a single thing.

Glante is so big and loud. More expensive than GS entry level piece.
