Seiko or Tissot as a gift for my staff
« on: June 27, 2012, 11:48:48 AM »
Dear sifu,
I have a staff leaving soon and I want to get her either a Seiko or Tissot time piece as a parting gift.
Would appreciate any recommendations from the experts here on affordable time piece.
Criteria as follows: -

* Automatic (all her watches are quartz, I want to introduce her to the beauty of automatic)
* Lady or unisex size
* Leather strap (she already have a few metal bracelet, including an entry level Cartier. Thought she'll appreciate leather)
* Simple design, somehow I don't think she's a fan of complication
* Price range to be less than RM1K after discount :)
* I think she would prefer a formal or at least a watch that can pass for formal. She's a hotelier and would appreciate the flexibility to match the watch to her wardrobe

Think that's it. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Quartz fashion watch with bling2 would be the best bet... maybe dkny or guess with stones watch. What is her favourite brand?

Haha, I don't want to get any fashion watch for her. I wanted to get her a "proper" automatic watch.
She's a watch lover herself but woman are (generally) more concerned about the appearance o the watch.
On 2nd thought, maybe it's a good idea to get her a watch with see through caseback too.
The reason I pick Seiko or Tissot is that this 2 brands are sort of recognized for their quality especially in movement.

Try the Tissot Open Heart.
Really nice ladies watch.
A little over 1k if I am not mistaken.

I dunno, I kept hearing from MWF that Seiko seems to be spoken more highly than Tissot.
The thing is that it's difficult to tell from Seiko's website whether the timepiece is auto or quartz. It doesn't seems to have a filter system like Tissot, which is such a pain.

for seiko, what it is is stated on the dial, be it automatic or kinetic...if nothing then consider it as quartz.

you can check all the available models here and SRP at thongsia's website.

I got a similar predicament last year. Wanted to get 11 watches for 11 staff that have served for more than 5 year with the company.

Realised that watches are like cloths (or jewelry). Individual choice is important. If you want to get something because you feel is right, it might not be the same for the receiver.

What i did was have a budget, makes friends with a watch outlet (that stocks a number of brands) and let the individual choose themselves. In my case, it was a real good bonding session with the staff. If they prefer quartz that's fine. If they want something more expensive, they just need to top up - in the end, it is about giving choices and walking away with something that they will use.

Very well said meoramri. I get your drift.
Thanks.
