Dear all,

I have bought a Rolex GMT master IIc TT about 5 days ago. Setting me back RM30K++. Now I am thinking to buy the SS version.

Reasons : (1) the TT version is a beautiful piece but not suitable for my daily use. I am a sales personel and need to visit a lot of customers each day, going places, things like that. The TT version attracts too much attention, and too prone to scratches. It looks more like a dinner wear.
               (2) I like the Rolex GMT Master IIc so much that I wish to own a SS version. It is more versatile as I can just put on my wrist and go anywhere I want with it. Swimming, playing golf, playing badminton, seeing customers, shoppings, fightings  >:( etc...
               (3) I heard the Rolex prices will go up soon, and buying them now will be a good investment?? (Can anyone verify this?)

P.S. I am openned up to other models and other brands too. Prefer a well known brand. Budget is less than RM20K (:Praying:).

I am giving myself two weeks to sleep over this...  :-\

Any opinions by any forumer is much appreciated.

We are in the same boat! Got the exact same rollie late last month and yes, I think it attracts too much attention and seems more delicate. As a result, I tend not to roll up my sleeves anymore  :o

Was wearing the SD previously and it's certainly a more versatile watch! That said, the SD doesn't have that chunky solid feel like the GMT2TT

Probably need some getting use to.......

1) Steel bracelet,
2) Solid build, luxury feel, not too bling,
4) Can wear while doing sports, construction site visits, etc...
5) Prefer with date and day and GMT function,
6) Water Resistant to 100m, can be used for recreational diving,
7) RM20K budget.

Any recommend on the BRAND and MODEL NUMBER should be suffice, I will google the details from the web. Thanks. :)

My friend,

That's too much to ask for a luxury watch. You'll end up with a "burger" on the wrist and a dial so busy that you can't read the time clearly  :D

Day date model are usually ugly in my opinion but if you really need it then I guess is a must. Why would you need another GMT watch? Since you have the Rolex GMT TT.

All the dive worthy watch with GMT is anything but solid and luxury feel.

You can try this. Not for me but you might like it.
BALL Engineer Master II Diver Worldtime

Day date, Worldtimer (GMT on steroid!) and divable (300m so it can do 100m)

Sure cost less than 20k

Given in the same situation I would choose this
Seamaster Pro Chronograph Titanium

Tough and could be dressy at the same time. BTW you can even engage the chrono pusher while its underwater! Not available anymore but you can find it time and again in some used shop.

I love the pre Planet Ocean design. It's just my personal taste.

Regards
Tyler

if you're anal about exact timing and travel often enough to need to track 2 time zones. World timer watches are hopeless when it comes to Daylight Savings Time hour adjustments.

Also not to mention now that Moscow decides to abolish DST so pre 2011 World Timer watches made pre-2011 are practically outdated.

Thanks Gozilla for your recommendations, I agree that Omega looks much better. The Ball looks too clamped together in the dial. Much difficult to read I suppose.

Terrenceterence : Although I am not too sure what you mean by abolishing DST. I appreciate the info. Thanks. I don't like watch with world time either, I merely prefer the extra 24-hour hand on the watch and the fact that we can adjust the 12-hour hand separately without disturbing the minute.

BTW, I like the lume on my GMT TT. Guess I will put up one more criteria to my list, a nice and easy to read lume light when it  is dark.

Dont know what a nice and easy lume mean to you. But if you mean bright lume, then i think the tritium tubes on ball is currently without rival. If you meant blue lume, then Rolex or Omega's lume is pretty nice. If you mean legible lume then any luminova should do. I notice the lume on my GMT is just right, not too crowded. The brightness is okay, but I prefer them to last a bit longer. I read somewhere that some Rolex lume can last up to 8 hours. I think those are the new Explorer II models. Can someone verifies it?

I kind of doing research almost every night. Among those better brands, I still bias towards GMT master IIc. Maybe that is because I have one with me already. I will need to visit somemore shops to look up some choices. Maybe putting up some on my wrist and to feel them on my hands. That will have to wait for a while now.  ;)

Dear all,

It has been a while and I finally decided to get myself a Rolex Submariner Date.

I ordered it two weeks ago. It reached the AD yesterday, and I went to pick it up today.

I am trying my best to post some photos.

Thanks.

no point getting another Rollie GMT.

Grand Seiko Spring drive Divers GMT fits your criteria.

Congraz bro on the gmt ii tt. Understand you when you said concerned on scratches. My 3 month sub tt also suffered scratches on the clasp (the gold portion) from minor deskdiving. Simple and lazy solution...cellophane tape...did you know the width of a regular cellophane tape exactly matches the width of the clasp? :Laughing_on_floor:

Anyway...enjoy search...do consider the sub and after that the deep sea dweller...then you would have completed the trio. Cheers.

Thank you all for your kind words. I think it is a beautiful piece. Very easy to wear for any occasions.

I worn it the whole day today. Kept looking at it on the wrist. When I am in the lift, I kept looking at it in the mirrors...  ;D

One thing I do appreciate is that the brushed bracelet is a relief from scratches. But it doesn't look bad. Really. It looks quite nice. Rugged and sporty. ( I wear short sleeves 99% of the time, that is why a low maintainance bracelet is one of my criterials )

Congrats on the new sub, next up should be a Daytona!  ;D

Hi, When I picked up my Sub. The SA showed me a Daytona Black Dial to compare. To be honest, I think the Daytona is an okay watch. I found the main dial crowded with many pointers and sub-dials. Furthermore the aluminium bezel doesn't interest me as well. The fact that the minute/hour hands and sud-dials' markers are of the same color ( silver ), puts me off. Harder to tell time at a glance.

Anyway, it is only my first impression.

The bezel is not aluminium. And my first impressions of the Daytona were the same as yours. Don't look too often, especially the SS with white dial...

Maybe I shouldn't look at SS white dial too often,  ;) . I initially don't really like the Sub date that much compared to the GMT. But the longer I look at it's photos and pictures on the internet, the fonder I grew over it. The next thing I know is I tried to find ways to get it. Hehehe... ;D
