Actually ..AFAIK all new PO (ceramic dails) comes in 8500 guise (8520 is a variant of it). The LM LE was introduced prior to the adoptation of the 8500 movement to the current gen PO. -Correct me if I am wrong..

Nope, the caseback is steel instead of crystal.. My preference is for steel caseback as I think it's more apt for a diver's watch.

The POs with the 8500 movement have crystal case backs and I was told that because of this (along with the movement), it resulted in the thicker profile of the watch.
