Love the case,
Love the dial,
Love the leather band.

Not sure about the red bezel insert,
Not sure about the crown engraving,

Hate the hands,
Hate the red crown tube.

BTW here is a more appropriate photo of what a 1954 Tudor Sub looks like

It seems like the 2 new watches from Tudor for Basel 2012, namely the Black Bay and the Pelagos have indeed been inviting awe and hate at the same time...
Pelagos seems to be drawing the awe while Black Bay seems to get alot of flak.

Well, whats not to like about the Pelagos?
Snowflake hands and markers with the blocky markers... and that's where the Snowflake inspiration ends... other than that, the whole watch is considered new...

The Black Bay... as Hobbs said... "a hodge podge of Tudor diver's of old"
At 1st, I myself is leaning towards Pelagos as well...
But lately, the Black Bay looks really good.

As the Tudor mentioned at Baselworld.
Quoted from Hodinkee...

" the Black Bay is not a re-make of any particular watch at all as the online community tends to think of any watch with a historical reference, but rather a culmination of and tribute to the very best of Tudor dive watches of the 20th century."

Makes sense to me...
If they were to reissue the Snowflake models of old 1:1, I guess it's just milking the cow.

As for the Burgundy Bezel colour...

"Burgundy to Tudor is like Green to Rolex, those are the colours that represent the brand"

Makes sense as well.

Checked with my local AD and it seems like the Pelagos will arrive 3 months earlier than the black bay.
Pelagos at June-July while Black Bay is Sept-Oct.

Will have to try out both before making any decisions.
Terrenceterrence "seriously, i think buying a watch for it's secondhand value is like getting married and thinking about divorce at the back of your mind."

Rolex has never made a re-issue of their heritage watches. the new Exp2-42 (216570) closest re-hash was the orange colour and shape of the GMT hand of the 1655.

Tudor, i think was pushing the limit, to see how buyers would react to a heritage re-issue. the red colours, snowflake hands and rose logo. creative manipulation indeed.

i think the current online reviews are biased. let's see how they sell when they're released. i'm not looking at them as a buyer as i have no want for a Tudor.

Between the 2, I'd go for the Black Bay. This is one of my targets for this year, but like Hanz says, need to see the piece in all its splendour before committing to buy...
