Hi.

I am trying to choose between Omega DeVille Co-Axial Chronometer Chronoscope GMT 422.13.44.52.13.001 & one of the Planet Ocean 8500. Not much review on the DeVille though.

Hope to get some advice from the sifus here.

Thanks.

Hi bibendum,

Hmmm..interesting choice you got there...both are very different watches for different occasions. One is more of a dress watch and the other is a diver. No prizes for guessing which is which.

I cant say much on the DeVille as I have not handled or seen it. But I can share my opinion on the PO 8500. Just picked mine up today 42 mm orange numerals on SS bracelet. First impression..its a hefty watch. But it sits nicely on the wrist. Wears very confortable..even with its weight.. its been like 5 hours I since it on my wrist..I can honestly say I dont feel the weight at all by now.

Also, its a rather thick watch, I can see problems wearing cuff shirts over it. But it would look great with a T-shirt. I indend it to be my daily beater, so IMHO, the P.O will look not too out of place on weekdays (in a suit if required) or weekends (casual). I find the 45.5 dial looks better...but too bad I got a small wrist..hence couldnt carry the big watch look.

The finishing is absolutely spot on..and the see through case is a real novelty. Its hard to find a diver with a transparent back...for me only minor issue is the crown which I find its a bit difficult to turn. Also, for calibre 8500, no quick set dates but there is quick set hour hand. You have to manual set the date by moving the hours. A bit of a pain, but no real biggy if you wear it daily. Yet to test its accurancy since its so new..but heck its COSC certified, so shoudnt be that far off.

Overall, the P.O is fantastic watch by itself. I wont go to the extend to say its on par with a Submariner, but $-$ its a lot of watch for the money. Its has better tech, looks great.. and being substantially cheaper than a Sub..what more can one ask..except its not a Rollie.. :)

Will post pics once I get around to it...

Hi Henry133,

Thanks for the advice. These are the two watches I came down to in the current Omega range.

For the DeVille:
Couldn't find much comments online
Has a more unique look
RRP more expensive by RM9k.

For the Planet Ocean 8500:
Newer movement
Safer design, more casual
Tougher built? Ceramic.

It has been bugging me for the past month. Hard decision to make.

Hmmm...

Difficult choice indeed...but if I am in your shoes, well...its a pretty no brainer (seriously I am not being bais here). The 8500 wins it. there is always a possibility of the 3313 with co-axial escapement suffering from some of the problems faced in the early 2500 P.Os.

Aside from the designs, needless to say the calibre of the movement will always be my main factoring point. An in house movement will always be a trump card. For all its worth...I really cant bring myself to justify paying $$$$$$$$$$$ for a ETA mod. Its akin of buying a supped up Proton at a premium. But then again its just me.... :)

I rather get hold of the PO than the chronoscope.

-Much more nicer/simpler watch. Lower long term cost of ownership (chrono vs non chrno movement)

-The bezel much more useful than the "hard to see chronograph" on the chronoscope.

By all mean decide whic is the best for you. If i were u i rather go for the PO cause its much more cool looking :Jumping:.

Depends in what comPlication u are interested in.

The cool thing about the Chronoscope is that it's only a handful GMT chrono in the world with an independently detached hour hand like Rolex GMTII

Are u looking for a sporty dive watch or a sporty "all in one dress" watch.

  • I am poor but i am kind...
yeah both are very different models, you should consider whether u want a sport watch or dress watch. I personally think either one is good. Just a matter of dress watch or sport watch. But having said that, I do see a lot of people wearing planet ocean and it looks well in ball room and suits too.
I am broke but I am happy...

I agree with Terrence it all boils down what you want...if all in one dress watch ..well I guess the Aqua Terra would be a great choice..I dont mean to complicate thing though  :-\

The 3313 seems to be an improved version post year 2006.

The PO is all-rounder, can't deny on that. But the DeVille wins on being its uniqueness.

Not much said about the DeVille nor many have owned it. Why? Is it the price, the movement, the busy face?

Omega owners. Omega or Rollie?

You are the one who is wearing the watch so ITS YOU who are the one to decide.

If i were you i will go for PO cause I like that watch.

Dunno, I think if you plan to keep long term, the DeVille is probably more unique. If you plan to flip in the future, probably PO has better resale. PO is also the more recognizable watch, especially the one with the orange bezel  :o.

Good luck!

As prompted by Henry133, I did some research on the Seamaster Aqua Terra Chrono GMT.

One feedback I got was about the PVD coated bezel. Was told that it is made of rubber and the durability of the bezel comes into question. Any comments on that?

Thank you.
