Gift for Abah.
« on: April 09, 2012, 04:52:50 PM »
hi!
i,myself and my brother having a problem to choose what watch to buy for our Abah birthday gift. Last time i bought a Seiko (cant remember the model) for Abah and it last till today, which have been more than 5 years. so,its a good reason to get a new watch for him. but, since me and my brother is still studying, we were seeking for a price between rm1.8k to 2.5k as we were only afford for not more than rm2.5k .oh, Abah's birthday is on June,so we only have around +- 2months left.
we would love to give him a different brand this time. Any suggestions of brands that we should check into?
 Thank you. :)

try go to a shop where the sales owner is friendly enough to allow you to change the next day (in case Dad don't like the color or style...

Tissot has many nice range too...affordable....best place is to surf the website of these brands....Tissot, Ball, Oris (for last 2 brands, your choice limited since budget is slightly on low end).
Once you see 1-2 pieces that you like, come back here and ask where is good place to buy....we can't post directly here but we can pm you....

another way is share with us what style do you think he'll like? outdoor type like Casio G Shock? Dressy watches with simple dial? busy dial? brightly colored? big size?

Don't worry about your budget...a gift to the Dad is priceless! All the best in your hunt!

Can you share the character of dad? it can help narrow the options a bit.

BTW, which model Seiko you got him earlier?

The watch you buy would have to suit abah's character and style. Not all watches sing to me as loudly as some.

yea bro, can you share a bit more about what type of watch your dad likes ?
big, small diameter ? sporty or classic look ? auto or quartz ? PVD or SS ?
my dad likes to wear Stainless Steel quartz watch with some gold plated parts with medium diameter (around 39mm)

My dad and brother as well as my 2 brother-in-laws are engineers. They appreciate these watches from Suunto and I bet your dad will to. If your dad likes steel bracelet, the first one, rubber the second and leather, the last one.

Suunto Elementum Terra

I was in this situation not too long ago. My dad is the type that likes watches that are classy, not too big and feels light on his wrist.

Since my dad was getting old, his eyesight is no longer as before and I didn't want him to fumble with adjusting the time and date everytime the watch stops.

In the end, I got him an Omega AT Quartz.

Before buying your dad the watch.. I would advise that you gently probe him for preferences to see what he likes. Maybe your mum can help as well without letting the cat out of the bag.  ;D

Try to check out Titoni & Epos. Both company provide good quality, good price & long watch making experience; they do have many classic, simple design.

I'm sure there is a design that your abah likes. And a brand which your abah knew.
