JLC in mind. Need advice.
« on: March 17, 2012, 11:13:00 AM »
Hello MWF

I plan to buy a JLC watch this year with the following options in mind:

1) JLC Reverso Grande GMT
2) JLC Reverso Grande Duo
3) JLC Reverso Grande Date
4) JLC Reverso Squadra Hometime
5) JLC Master Calendar

I do understand choosing a watch is basically box down to person's liking.

However, in my quest of deciding my 1st purchase of JLC, I would be delighted to listen advice/guidance in choosing a JLC from our experienced members.

Narrowing down, with the hope that the models are still available, I would like to know what would be the model of choice for our experience MWF members that would present :-

1) A simple classic design
2) Value for money

I am also contemplating whether should I go for the Reverso series or Masters series. In short, to get a round vs rectangular shape from JLC.

As such, it would be good if any MWF members could PM me on where could I get the best deal in town. Perhaps also to recommend the AD as well. I'll be back in Malaysia somewhere in May 2012 to scout.

I don't mind owning a pre owned JLC watch. For any member who intends to depart with his/her JLC, feel free to PM me.

Thank you.

I do like the JLC models but I'm going for round. I understand the square Reverso is JLC's legend but it doesn't attract me. I'd go with the Master Control. Myself looking at the JLC Master Control Chronograph.

Thank you for prompt response.

No doubt the simplicity of the Squadra Hometime (period) seems to be the best bet. However, I just came to know that the size of Squadra series differs from the Grande series and Squadra design is more squarish compared to the classic. Obviously, it will be best for me to visit the AD when I come back and try it on for myself.

Now the hunt for the best AD for best deal. Can anyone kindly PM me the AD and perhaps the person that I should be in touch with. It will help me for the pre arrangement prior to my visit.

Oh, pre owned JLC watch is also in my dictionary. PM me.

Cheers!

Agree.

Much truth in your sayings. It's not like the case of Rolex which its value has survived the test of time here in Malaysia. Anyways, the 'hope' will always be there.

I might consider my Grande GMT for sale at the right price..
Personal taste and preferences evolve over years, hopefully not 1 full circle otherwise it means we haven't learnt a single thing.

Did some homework. I do share the same - it's really amazing!

39mm should be a decent size.

PM sent.

That will depend on what collection you have at the moment.

It will depend on your wrist and your 'style' too. Personally speaking, I must always try on a watch on my wrist to see how it fit me before I make final decision. I will go for reverso GMT cos thats JL classic model and most of my watches are round and I really want to have a GMT watch. But thats just me.

JL does have great movement. But i am sure you need this is not a brand which hold value. If you do consider changing your watch after a while, I think rollie is still the best bet. Not even panerai.
I am broke but I am happy...

Well said. Can't agree more.

As for finding the right size, seeing is believing.

In view that I am so much physically 'detached' and 'isolated' with the modern world, I can only experience this when Im back during my hols.

For now, the internet is my best friend (homework on the watches) + new friends in MWF !!!

My wrist size is 7 1/4 inch and I am so used to 38-40mm sizes.

Just wondering whether a 44mm JLC Amvox series size will do good on my wrist for casual use.

Hmmmm ...  :-\

If you have the $ I would go for the Reverso GMT or the AMVOX One Ti, maybe a AMVOX 2 SS.

The Reverso GMT is a lot of watch for the money you pay. The GMT is XGT size which mean it will wear nicely on your rather large wrist. IMHO a reverso suppose to be a dress watch so squadra is a no go for me. Look around and you should find a used one. A new SS one will cost around 30k after discount.

Cheap consider you are getting, 2 dial, GMT function, AM/Pm indicator, 8 days power reserve, Guilloche dial and grande date.

What not to like. The green SubC sell for 28k. Not hard to decide.

Tyler

Thanks much for sharing your opinions and I personally appreciate it. Really.  :)

After sleeping on the JLC models, I've decided to go for the JLC Master Compressor Navy Seal (42mm) with its articulated rubber for a start. It should serve me good for my casual wear. I have in fact made the necessary arrangement. God's will, I should be able to own it by end Apr 12. As for my dress watch, I'll be going for the JLC Master Ultra Thin Moonphase 39.

The truth, my eyes are still with the Reverso series, particularly the Grande GMT, but now comes the GO Senator Perpetual Calendar (ceramic). I hope I can achieve it by the end of this year.  :Praying:

For those who can help me out in paving my way to get a good deal on GO, please PM me.

Again, thank you guys!
