How to polish off scratch marks on watch?
« on: February 22, 2012, 09:50:06 AM »
Hi, I'm a newbie here, would like to know if there's a way to polish off the scratch mark on my watch.

This is the first "luxury" watch that i bought, its a tag, and as you can see in the picture attached, the scratch mark is at the top right side of the logo.

Really heartache to see it like that... Any sifu can give me a hint or two? Its a stainless steel bracelet.

It is just a really minor scratch. A watch with scratches is a watch with character. Don't bother about it. My pal has a Rolex submariner with tons of scratches and it looks really cool and rugged on his wrist. Tags are watches for machos, it is meant to have scratches.

If the scratch is on a polished surface, you can remove it with Silvex (you can get a tube from that watch accessory/part shop at Jalan Sultan Selangor Complex next to the hotel, just beware of the unfriendly women (wo)manning the counter). But in your case, the scratch is on the brushed surface and using silvex will alter the brushed surface. You probably need to get a grey polishing bar for it but this needs to be handled by a real expert.

If I were you, I'll just leave it as it is.  :Blue:

try Scotch Brite pads? that's the recommendations on other forums to produce the brush finish on Rolex so it might work here too. but personally, i would suggest to leave it alone. a pristine looking watch makes it look like you hardly wear it, or baby it too much.

Scotch brite? You sure? Wow, this is a real eye opener, never knew that's even possible. But i think it'll create some finer scratches, anyways, worth a try i believe...

Just leave it as it. Cause even if u polished it off it will eventually be scratched again. Also, it give the watch some character with some scratches here and there. Not fun if the was in super pristine condition. That was my opinion  ;D

Totally understand that, but you know la, this is the first time i ever bought a watch that is worth more than 12k, can't really blame me for over protecting it :Praying:. Previously i didn't even bother about watches, i thought that its just a tool to show time. But now that i own one, i would try my best to contradict with me old self, lol, I'm a damn hypocrite right?

Still is.

As for the scratch, use Scotch Brite, brush lightly, vertically downward motion, none of the upward downward motion some of us are use to.  ::) :o ;D

It's a bit like sex. The first time will be the most memorable.  ::)The 899th will hardly be worth mentioning.  :Blue:

I know this sounds flippant, but once it has got a few more scratches & dings, you will not notice / remember anymore.

How much do you think it'll cost? If expensive then i think i'll just leave it as it is or try doing it myself using scotch brite like others in the forum recommend.

I bought myself a watch touch-up pen for scuff like yours from ebay, together with the pad which actually turn out to be Scotch Brite. The touch up pen is a gem to work with. It some kind of fine hard bristles. I experiment using a very fine sand paper on the buckle of Tissot and it turn out fine too.
