Overseas Pre-Owned Watch (HongKong or Macau)
« on: February 20, 2012, 03:22:26 PM »
Dear All SiFus..

Would like to know if any of MWF members here has any experience in purchasing pre-owned watch from overseas (HongKong/Macau)? Was about to visit a friend in HongKong (maybe drop by Macau as well) and thought of dropping by established watch shops to see if they have any current/vintage collection. Macau could be a good place to hunt (from pawn shop?) due to casino factor.

Any advise is welcomed. Thanks.

They (in HK and Macau) have a sizeable pre-owned watch market but it is worthwhile to be VERY VERY careful when you buy pre-owned watches from these places (in fact from any place!!!). If you are into vintage and pre-owned Rolex, it is advisable to arm yourself with a list of main parts for each model (this can be downloaded from the internet) as some watches could have been put together like Frankenstein. For example, if you purchase a GMT 16750, you should know that this watch comes with a 78360 bracelet with 580- endlink. Don't accept one with a 455B endlink (which goes into a datejust or explorer I). Check the serial numbers and model numbers are properly centered (so make sure yours is not a "black market" watch with re-done serial numbers).

Anyway good luck and enjoy....

Thank you all. Think I will drop by HKG ..... to look see look see if I can get any good deals. According to other blogs, most of the pre-owned watches in Macau are those in gold, diamond and etc which is not to my liking, guess the casino is really doing well  ;D

Thank you all again.

Agree with enkidu. Rolex being the one of the most traded watches in this region is also renowned for being 'advancedly' imitated right down to the finer details. As such, reputation of a seller is one of the criteria that you need to take into account as well.
