Ways of taking care...is it correct??
« on: February 09, 2012, 02:08:41 PM »
Hello sifus, i have a few questions regarding taking care of your watches; my question are:

1.I always use "Autosol: Metal polish" to do the job with (a polishing machine)...is it correct??
2.Most of my collections are Orients, so they are mostly Crystal lens...can use the same material also?
3.I bought a Ultrasonic machine to clean some hard to reach place in the watch before...is it safe? Because from what i heard on-line, is a big Taboo. It might spoil the inner gears...is the vibration so strong??
4.Will washing your watch with hot water (not boiling but middle temp) spoil the oil ring??

Pls :Praying: do advice.....

You polish your own watch? With a machine and metal polish? Well, no right or wrong, but you are thinning out your case.

2.Most of my collections are Orients, so they are mostly Crystal lens...can use the same material also?

What is the crystal made of? Hardex? Acrylic? Sapphire? I would not use Autosol (name already suggest it is for cars) but Polywatch but that also only on acrylic.

3.I bought a Ultrasonic machine to clean some hard to reach place in the watch before...is it safe? Because from what i heard on-line, is a big Taboo. It might spoil the inner gears...is the vibration so strong??

Yes, it is used to clean bracelets and watch movement parts (once it has been taken apart) and not as a complete movement.

4.Will washing your watch with hot water (not boiling but middle temp) spoil the oil ring??

Yes, eventually.

Pls :Praying: do advice.....

are you really that obsessed with polished watch case? why not get a tungsten watch? saves you the trouble to polish with a machine or your hands.

I agree....but tungstein are always too glossy. Try to do by hand polish on a Stainless steel watch, u will feel "Satisfy"( if everything goes well..)....try it.   :Dancing_banana:

ohohoho.... trust me, i've tried alot of things. I repair and service my own watches which includes refurbishing the cases, but my watches are not so expensive.
