Sinn Ultimate U
« on: October 28, 2009, 01:14:01 PM »
Just learnt from the local AD that Sinn is in the final stages of preparing an oversized diver watch in the tradition of the Sinn U1. Some sketchy details are listed below but unfortunately there are no pics available yet. So for the time being we will have to exercise our imagination to guess what the Ultimate U will look like.

Material:          Submarine Steel
Case Size:        47mm
Limited edition:  200 pieces worldwide
Retail Price:      Slightly more than 2X U1 retail price?
Delivery time:    approx. end Nov or early Dec

Technical details / watch picture will be ready on 2nd or 3rd week of November.

All I can say is Sinn is trying hard to move upmarket with this kind of retail pricing. I would be expecting more than a 2824 calibre for that kind of price range.

For watch this size, I believe they will use 6497 (manual).  Otherwise, should they stick to auto, they have to add a large spacer for a 2892 or 2824 .

i think eta valgranges fit this...
its larger than 2824 / 2892, tough and its auto.... 6497 is handwind... which a bit odd for a divers with screw in crown....

valgranges is actually a 7750 without chrono... but with center sweep second....
some bigger longines, uts adventure II, sharpena.....and other higher range watches using it now....

Hi guys,
I'm thinking that in this price range Sinn had better offer some thing extra in the watch movement.
For example Panerai offer highly customized Unitas movements in their Base Luminors in this price range. Omega offers the co-axial movement with silicium hair spring in this price range and Rolex also offers the parachrom hairspring in even their new entry level Air King models.

If Sinn wants to play in the same league as the big boys they had better offer at least their Diapal escapement technology in the watch movement for this price range. Otherwise I don't see the value in paying double for the extra 3mm in case diameter.

Just my 2 cents.

Interesting. Personally, what makes the U series watches unique is the use of submarine steel. Making it larger and in a limited edition is like rehashing an old story. Sinn could make it unique with the choice of movement. But really, it's a diver's watch at the end of the day, so workhorse movement is all that's needed.

Yes. You could be right, Valgranges. It is used in some German brands big automatic pilot watches and of course Longiness.

There was nagging feeling I forgotten something. Thanks

This is probably why Sinn is releasing this in a limited production series of 200 units only. Test the water first.
My feeling is that at this price range there are a lot of other excellent watches out there, so Sinn will really have to offer that something extra to pull in buyers other than the hard core U1 fans. Or perhaps they know that there are at least 200 hard core U1 fans out there who would snap up the whole production run in no time.

for 3 times the price...u get a
- 47mm instead of 44mm submarine steel
- free water proof leather strap
- limited to 200 pieces world wide
- eta 2892 -a2 instead of eta 2824-2

worth?

bigger = better = much more expensive

surprise not going deeper !

why using 2892? which is more expensive but thinner?
why not a cosc 2824? or a bigger n better eta - the valgrance !

Recently, i find that these large diameter watches have quite a potential market. Sinn would not miss the boat in this trend. They foresee even in high price labeling, make it LE is still tempting.

valgrance is a modified 7750...
so its bigger... wind better... longer power reserve... normally better finish in production!
