Need advice: Budget 3k
« on: January 27, 2012, 10:15:38 AM »
Hey guys,
I'm 19 and i'm looking to getting my first proper watch .
I'm looking for something sturdy yet nice enough to go well with most clothes
I like IWC , panerais ( i know it's more expensive , but hoping you guys can suggest something similar.)
Prefer leather straps or at least steel ones that can be swapped to leather ones and still look nice .

Cheers

Im no expert but try and have a look at Dievas,Laco or Steinhart.

Design wise, it'll look somewhat similar to IWC more than a Panerai. But quality wise its a good bang for the buck. With laco and Steinhart you will definitely can get a IWC pilot design and some fleiger history/dna with it as well. As for Dievas, you'll get the toughness and robustness of a Panerai.

There's a lot out there, Seiko Sumo, Bronze Magrette, and the upcoming Olivier Bronze as well.

Aight , lets say i wanna try getting something i can get in ADs or shops in malaysia, what are the other options within a rm2500 to rm3000-3500 band? Apparently my mum says we have a distant ( very distant ) relative that owns a shop that carries Oris and can give good discounts .
I'm pretty fond of that brand too . Any recommendations?

you can try xxxx, provided if you like vintage looking mechanical time piece. just been to their outlet the other day for CNY shopping. quiet a range of unique, uncommon watch  :) with pretty reasonable price, below 3k. they have outlet in Pavillion, one utama and tropicana mall. Or else, you can follow the rest of the advice above and opt for a swiss watch.  ;) good luck.

best would be to get a pre-owned piece from the sales forum. It is a better watch at an affordable price. But if you still want brand new, then go for dievas, steinhart, laco, stowa and the likes. Oris is a good choice but it maybe too common.

any other preference? Swiss/Japan/German/Italy make? Auto/Quartz/Chrono ? Sports ? leisure? dress? daily beater?

Hamilton, Victorinox, Seiko, Luminox, Tissot would be some common brand you easily get that would fit into a RM 3k budget

Have a look at stowa. Bought from their online shop several times with no problems. Really beautiful and robust for the price.

Damasko is pretty nice as well. Theres a singaporean online shop which is excellent for them. Shd show up on google.

Happy hunting. Its the best part  :Dancing_banana:

up the budget slightly and try to get an Oris. they're pretty nice choices under RM5k.

myself attracted to an Oris Chrono but have not decided if i really want it. a 20%  discount was offered upfront, but will haggle for 30% after placing cash on the counter.

Yea, i always take off my watch when im playing lead .
I'm not looking into building a watch collection .. ( yet) , my first love will still be guitars
but i really like nice watches and need ( or so i tell myself) something worthwhile that makes me glad to put on .
